swiftdriver30 said:Hey everyone, I have a quick question regarding Windows 7. I wasn't quite sure if this had been asked before—I didn't have the patience to comb through all 200+ pages of the forum! xD. Basically, I want to know if there are any massive differences between versions, and which one would be better strictly for web browsing and gaming: Windows 7 Professional or Ultimate? And why? Right now, I'm running Windows 7 Professional with DirectX 11 and everything works perfectly, but I was wondering if it might be worth upgrading to Ultimate... I'm looking for some advice. If anyone can help me out, thanks!

The only real differences between Ultimate and Professional are BitLocker and Multilanguage support. Unless you specifically need one of those features, Ultimate doesn't make much sense; besides BitLocker, you just end up with a million extra programs to download that do the exact same thing. Honestly, I highly doubt you'll ever need to swap your Windows language while you're working. My advice? Stick with Professional. You aren't gaining anything significant, and it takes up less space on your C: drive.

There’s zero real difference for what you're doing—the Ultimate version basically just adds support for language packs and BitLocker encryption, everything else is identical.

Just a heads-up for next time—if you're replying to multiple people at once, use the multi-quote option (that icon to the right of the 'quote' button). That way, all the messages you select get bundled into a single post, which makes things way easier to read.

So, here’s how you do it: just open up any folder and set the view exactly how you want it. Then, hit on Oracle (up in the top left), head over to "Folder and search options," click the "View" tab, and select "Apply to Folders." This works for folders, but keep in mind you'll have to repeat the whole process for different file types—like if you've got a bunch of .mp3s, .avi files, or .doc documents. Basically, just open a folder containing those specific file types and run through the steps again.

The only real difference between Ultimate and Microsoft is that you get BitLocker and Multilanguage support. If you absolutely need one of those, then maybe Ultimate makes sense, but honestly, instead of just having BitLocker, you end up with a million extra programs to download that basically do the exact same thing anyway... Plus, I seriously doubt you’re gonna be swapping out your Windows language settings in the middle of a session or something. Just stick with Microsoft, you aren't gaining anything vital and it won't hog as much space on your C drive...

thanks man. 🙏

thanks, 😁 but I still don't get what you mean... I just have this QUOTE 🤷

Once you're logged into Reddit, look at the bottom right corner of EVERY POST. You'll see three icons there (Quote, multi-quote, and quick reply);
If you want to quote multiple posts, just click that middle icon on the first, second, or third post, then hit Quote on the final one (like the fourth one)

Are you kidding me? 😉

Have you guys heard the news? Service Pack 1 is officially on the way, and it looks like it'll be ready to download on February 22nd.

Unlike the Service Pack releases for Windows XP and Windows Vista, this one doesn't really offer anything "special" for home users who are constantly running Windows Update.

It’s actually not even a bad thing, really... it just means there isn't much left for them to fix 🙂.

Look, when you're logged into Reddit, every single post has those three little icons sitting right there in the bottom right corner (you know, the ones for Quote, multi-quote, and quick reply);
so if you're trying to quote a bunch of different people at once, just hit that middle icon on the first couple of posts you want to grab, and then for the very last one—like say, the fourth post in the thread—just click the regular Quote button instead...

You kidding me? 😉

dadadada I'm winning 😁 xd

Let's not overthink this. Just read the post a few times until it actually sticks. 🙂

Man, I totally get what you mean, I'm right there with you... but when I click that button in the middle, isn't it supposed to group more posts together or whatever, just to make everything look cleaner? For some reason, that little icon just looks all blurry to me.....🤷

Use the orange icon if you don't want this specific post to be the final thing in your quote; just hit Quote on the very last post you're looking at to reply to the whole group. 🙂

Look, I’ll apologize in advance because I am totally clueless when it comes to this stuff...
I'm hoping you experts out there can help me out without making fun of me too much 😍

I used to run Windows Vista, but now I've got Windows 7 installed.
The thing driving me crazy is Word.
I put some files on a USB drive to open them at a coworker's office, but it was a disaster. It kept saying they wouldn't work because of the version mismatch.
So now I'm wondering—how do I actually save a file so I know for sure the other person can open it? Like when I'm sending out job applications. I've got these options:
1.word document
-save the file as a word document
2.word template
-save the document as template that can be used to format future documents
3.word 97-2003 Document
-save a copy of the document that is fully compatible with word 97-2003
4.open document text
-save the document in the Open Document Format
5.PDF or XPS
-Publish a copy of the document as PDF or XPS file
6.Other formats
-open the Save as dialog box to select from all possible file types

I tried saving everything as a PDF, but for some reason, I can't even read them myself... they just look like random hieroglyphics.

I've never had issues with this before. This week, I'm just completely lost...

Please help!!!!

You'll need this under option 3, specifically a Microsoft Word 97 Document 🙂 You could always just mail the coffee to my house 😁

Man, now that you mention it, it just clicked for me too. I haven't felt this clueless in a long time... honestly, just feeling like a total airhead blonde right now...😕 😉
Thanks! You got a tea on me, Thomas Hernandez21!

I usually just go with option 6. Other formats and pick .rtf (rich text format). That way, you can pretty much open the file in any word processor later on. 🙂

Alright, I've got another question for you guys... is there any way to actually get Windows Live Messenger (MSN) 8.5 working properly on Windows 7? Because look, I had everything set up and ready to go, but my camera just refuses to cooperate during video calls, which is honestly such a joke... I can't even start a video chat without it immediately cutting out on me. Why the hell does this happen?!? Please, if anyone actually knows what's going on, help a guy out because this is huge for me and I really want to be able to use this version of MSN... thanks. Btw, my cam is a Logitech 250.

@ swiftdriver30

You might be able to pull this off using Windows XP (though you'd need Windows 7 Professional or Ultimate);
otherwise, Windows Live Messenger 2011 supports HD video chat, provided you actually have a decent webcam—and a Logitech C250 definitely doesn't cut it for that.

Maybe you could try using what they call Windows XP mode (but only if you're running Windows 7 Professional or Ultimate);

I don't know, man, I've got MSN installed perfectly fine and I can get into it and everything, and I can see the other person's little camera feed right there by their profile pic, but the second I actually hit that video call button, it just kicks me out immediately... I have no idea why :S especially since I've got a Logitech C510 HD camera that's 8mpx, but I don't even bother using it because whenever I'm on Skype, it totally kills my internet speed and starts lagging like crazy because the resolution is probably just too high or something (that's my guess anyway)... anyway... I honestly have no clue how to set up that Windows XP mode thing you mentioned... I've got Windows 7 Ultimate right now because I wanted to swap out the language pack, and some guy on a forum told me you couldn't do that on Professional, so here I am... basically... if you could help me figure out this mess, because I just finished setting up this week's install and haven't even gotten MSN back up yet... so yeah... thanks
