Basically, that first checkbox shouldn't be checked.🙂

The first image shows the issue as it was explained, while the second one is how my setup actually looks.

When I try following the steps in the picture, my computer settings look a bit different. All I see is "Use Sharing Wizard (Recommended)," and when I uncheck that, nothing happens. I haven't even bothered trying the rest of those options yet.

I could use some help here. I'm having issues with Windows 7 64. It’s a bit of a mess. I had this version running fine for ages, then suddenly it started freezing during startup. I tried a clean install of Windows. I downloaded all the latest drivers, shut down, waited a few hours, turned it back on... and yeah, it froze again right at startup. I ran Startup Repair, and it suggested unplugging external devices. I pulled the USB gamepad, but that didn't do anything. I did some digging online and thought maybe it was a driver issue. I recently installed an ATI (11.2) driver for my Radeon HD 5870, so I tried reinstalling everything again—motherboard, graphics, and my Samsung 2333 HD monitor using the drivers from the included discs. Everything seemed fine for a moment, until the internet cut out. When I tried to reconnect, the screen went haywire—kind of like a GPU failure with those undefined white lines across the display—and I had to force a restart. This happened while trying to connect to the web, though it's also happened a few times just watching YouTube.

To summarize: it freezes at startup and Startup Repair is useless. Before that, it would freeze within Windows itself (though games actually run fine), showing horizontal lines before needing a reboot. The last time was specifically when I was trying to connect to the internet while the screen said "verifying username and password."

I'm probably forgetting something, but I'll remember once people start replying. I've reinstalled Windows about 5 or 6 times now and fully updated everything using the driver discs. It used to work perfectly, then this just started happening out of nowhere. I suspect maybe the new ATI driver or perhaps DirectX, but even the disc drivers seem to trigger it.

Thanks. Hopefully someone can help.

So:

1. Check your temperatures and post them here.

2. See what errors Event Viewer is throwing and list them here.

3. Download MHddt here (iso image), burn it, and let it scan the hard drive. Post any errors you find here.

Right-click on the desktop and go to View - auto Arrange Icons.

That option isn't even turned on. Every time I try to move a file back, it doesn't just snap back to where it was on my desktop like it should. I’m stuck having to manually drag it around with the mouse every single time.
Back to the old spot.

Did you actually check Folder Options to make sure "Restore previous folder windows at logon" is checked? That might be your problem right there. 🙄

Get yourself some genuine Windows.

Trust me on this one... ever since I dropped a small fortune to get my hands on some real, clean, untouched original Windows, my life has been about 15 times better. Just do right by the developers with a gesture like that...

It’s actually pretty interesting because this whole issue seems to pop up even on perfectly legitimate, properly installed versions of Windows.

And then, as soon as you head over to the System Properties, everything just settles back down to normal, showing that the OS is fully licensed and activated without any issues at all.

Weird.

I figured I’d just try asking here since there isn't a specific thread for this kind of thing 😛
So, this weather gadget is acting all weird—it keeps telling me it's nighttime when it's actually broad daylight, and vice versa. I have no clue how to fix it?? 🤷 (just to be clear, I'm running Windows 7)

The weather gadgets are totally bugged—they show it's nighttime when it's actually broad daylight, and vice versa. Any idea how to fix this?🤷 (Using Windows 7 so there's no confusion)

Desktop gadgets (overview)

When you hover your mouse over a gadget, three little buttons will pop up. Look for the little gear icon (Options) and search for your own city instead of, say, Redmond, Washington, USA (where Microsoft is based).😉

Yeah, I know, I know... it’s sitting right there on my desktop and I've probably tried setting it up like 500 times already, but man, it still drives me crazy every single day lol

I don't want to clutter things up with a new thread, so I was hoping for some quick advice here.
I picked up a new laptop that came with Microsoft Windows 7 already pre-installed, so there wasn't any kind of installation disc in the box.

The thing is, since I just finished setting everything up, I'm wondering how I can make my own backup copy of the OS currently running on this machine...

Back when I had my old computer running Vista, I used to (I can't quite remember the exact steps) burn a Vista installation disc. That way, whenever the system got hit by a virus or just started acting sluggish, I could just pop that disc in and perform a completely fresh reinstall of Vista. It wasn't really about "repairing" the existing setup, but more about having the ability to wipe everything and start from scratch again.

Now, I’d love to do the exact same thing with Windows 7—basically "copy" it so I can create an installation disc. I want to have it ready to go so if I ever need to (re)install the system, I can do it knowing I'm using a perfectly legal copy...

Thanks so much in advance for any help you can give,
In case anyone needs the specs, the model is an HP G62 running Microsoft Windows 7 home premium 64bit.

Check the bottom of the laptop... there's a sticker with the Windows key on it.
Just grab the installer from the web and plug that key in during setup.
That keeps everything totally legit.

If you didn't get a recovery disc with the machine though... I'm not sure how you'll handle it.

Honestly, I don't think I ever actually got a recovery CD whenever I bought a computer pre-installed with Windows, so it’s the same story for me now too...
Does that mean I have to hunt it down via torrents or something?
Thanks so much, seriously—I never even bothered looking at those stickers on the back before, but now I see it really does say 🙂)

When you boot things up, you should probably get a prompt asking if you want to run a recovery. Most likely, there’s a recovery partition sitting on your drive that lets you reset Windows back to its factory settings—kind of like that "day one" feeling when you first unboxed the computer.

Any other fixes would pretty much require grabbing an OEM version of Windows from somewhere else and doing a clean install using the product key from your sticker.

Could someone please lend me a hand?

I am trying to figure out what exactly is causing my Windows system to crash. It seems that during the boot process, the system fails; specifically, once Windows finishes loading completely, the whole thing just collapses, resulting in a Blue Screen of Death followed by an automatic restart. Everything seems to function fine when I am running in Safe Mode, though even then, the stability isn't always guaranteed.

I suppose there might be some sort of error log or history of these events recorded somewhere—is there a specific place where I can find those details so I could post them here for your assistance?

Hit Start, type in run (or just use Win Key + R), then enter eventvwr.msc

It just occurred to me that he actually wrote this to me:

IRQL not less or equal

on the blue screen when the system crashes.

I suppose I wonder what that might signify? Thanks

Hey there 😁
Have you had a chance to check out the Event Viewer yet?

Yes, I am, and it shows critical events here:
kernel power. The system has rebooted without cleanly shutting down first. This error could.......

But I think I already know what that means. I suppose I should ask, which specific log should I be copying over here to make things a bit clearer?
