So, I’ve got this "problem." Basically, no matter where I’m typing—whether it’s in a chat window, Microsoft Word, or even right here on the forum—I keep getting these annoying red squiggly lines everywhere. I’m assuming it's just the spellcheck acting up because it thinks everything is wrong. I guess I probably need an American English language pack or something? I’m running Windows 7, so if anyone knows where I can snag that, let me know!

On Windows 7, you can just swap the language through Windows Update.😉

Douglas Garcia52 said:You can actually swap out your language settings on Windows 7 just by using Windows Update! 😉

I've been looking around, but everything I find is just for switching the whole system language over to American English. That’s not what I’m after—I actually want to keep my Windows interface in English. What I really need is just the spellcheck to kick in while I'm typing. Right now, every single thing I write is being underlined in red like it's some kind of massive error, which is super annoying because it's clearly not right. Back when I was running Windows XP, as soon as I switched the keyboard layout to American in the settings, the spellchecker would automatically start working. You know, that little language toggle you see down in the taskbar near the clock where you usually swap between ENG and other layouts? I'm trying to get that same functionality back.
So, I've got my Windows 7 settings set to English, but for some reason, the system keeps insisting on underlining everything like it's still stuck in another language. Does anyone actually get what I'm trying to say here?

It’s possible, but only if you're running the Ultimate or Enterprise editions (link);

As for spell checking, you can toggle that on or off individually within specific apps—like Outlook, MSN Messenger, Microsoft Word, Firefox, or Chrome, for instance.

Thanks so much, I really needed that! Right now I'm running Firefox 4, and they don't have an American English version for my specific needs yet, but I'm really hoping they roll out support for older versions soon. Fingers crossed! Thanks again!

Everything is running perfectly fine on my end using Windows 7 and Opera 11.1

And honestly, I’m still trying to figure out what a single week has to do with any of this... 🙄

I can't speak for Opera, but in Firefox 4, you can just toggle off "Check my spelling as I type" easily; Henry Morales6 probably uses way too many special characters, so the interface gets a bit... allergic to him 😬

It’s got nothing to do with the week; you can get those red underlines on Windows XP too

I went ahead and installed some add-ons myself, but for some reason, the browser is still insisting on underlining every single word with those obnoxious red squiggly lines.

Noah Sanchez39 said:I'm not too sure about Opera, but in Firefox 4 you can just flip the "Check my spelling as I type" switch off pretty easily. I think Henry Morales6 uses a ton of special characters, so maybe that's why the interface is acting up and getting all buggy on him.😬

It’s got nothing to do with the week itself; you can get those red underlines on Windows XP too.

Back when I was running Firefox 3 on Windows XP, I had the English spell check enabled and everything worked fine. Now that I've switched, if I turn off spell check, it's totally fine—but honestly, they'll probably have an English spell check update for Firefox 4 soon anyway, so it should work perfectly here! Also, regarding the OS, I've realized it's not really about the version of Windows you're using, it's more about the specific programs you've got running.

Once you've got everything installed, you just gotta go into the settings and set the Spell Check to English, then you should be good to go!

And where, exactly, am I supposed to go within the settings menu to select that?

Open up a site like Yahoo, click on any news story, scroll all the way down to the Comments section, and type something like "komnetar" (no quotes); right-click that word, make sure Spell Check is checked, and set the language to English/USA; at the top, it should show the correct version, bolded, as comment 😉

Where can I download SP1 for this week? 🤷 😬 Everything else usually updates without any issues.

-We were having a little debate at work about web browsers today. I mentioned how much I actually like Internet Explorer 9, only to have some "know-it-all" woman jump in and start claiming it’s total garbage. She insisted that IE will never be on the same level as Mozilla and will never catch up, citing all the forums she reads and people she talks to who agree with her 😕 while she just uses Chrome 😁
I just stood there looking stunned, so I eventually just said, "Fair enough."

How does IE9 hold up regarding security? Is it a complete joke compared to Firefox 🙂

We were debating web browsers at work today. I mentioned that I actually like Internet Explorer 9, but then this one self-proclaimed expert jumps in to tell me how much it sucks. She insisted that IE will never be on Mozilla's level and just won't ever get there. Apparently, she spends all her time reading forums and talking to people who agree with her. 😕 And they're using Chrome. 😁
I just kind of stood there, stunned. I guess I just said, "Alright, fine."

How does IE9 stack up security-wise? Or is it just trash compared to Firefox? 🙂

What did you expect to get out of an old lady? Maybe you should've just handed her a wooden spoon instead. 😁

Oh, look who it is. Taylor Doyle79, you’re showing up here just like that old lady, asking where on earth to download SP1. 😂

I mean, seriously? You get it from the web, Taylor Doyle79, obviously! Where else would anyone even look for it? 🤣

Just look:

You can just pull it through the update tool if you want. 😉

And you too, Taylor Doyle79? Just like that old lady wandering into the wrong shop, showing up here to ask where to download service pack 1. 😂

I mean, come on, you can just grab it from the internet. Where else would you even go to download it? 🤣

Look:

Are you serious? You're telling me that actually happened over the internet? 😲😲 Good grief. 😲

🤣
I'm well aware it was pulled from the web. I was actually asking about the specific source or site where it was hosted, but fine, let's move on. 😁

Hey man, where exactly am I supposed to click to see an image like that? 😁
