I REALLY NEED SOME HELP HERE:
I have a quick question for you all: will my internet connection actually work if I install Windows 7 on a computer using an ASUS P5PL2 motherboard?
I was wondering if Windows already comes with integrated drivers for this specific board, because I couldn't find any Windows 7 drivers listed on the manufacturer's website.

If that specific LAN driver doesn't install on Windows 7, I guess you'll just have to download it some other way. Hey. If you're looking to get this installed on Windows Vista, here’s how you should probably go about it:

Open that file you downloaded—if it’s sitting in a ZIP or RAR archive, just unzip it directly onto your hard drive first. Once you find the specific driver installer (.exe), right-click it and head into Properties. From there, go to the Compatibility tab and look for the "Run this program in compatibility mode for:" checkbox. Check that box, then pick either Windows Vista or Windows XP from the dropdown menu. Hit Apply, click OK, and that should pretty much do it. 🙂

Open up the file you downloaded (just make sure to unzip it if it's in a zip or rar folder first) and find the actual driver installer (.exe file). Right-click on it and select Properties, then head over to the Compatibility tab. Under the Compatibility mode section, check the box that says "Run this program in compatibility mode for:" and then just pick Windows Vista or Windows XP from the dropdown menu. Hit Apply, click OK, and you should be all set! 🙂

Thanks, 🙂

Honestly, Windows 7 is basically just a glorified XP. It’s got some minor graphical tweaks, but at its core, it isn't much different from XP. In my opinion, it’s not worth the upgrade. XP still does the job perfectly fine and probably won't be replaced by 7 anytime soon.

Please refrain from posting inaccurate information or anything that violates the forum rules.

If you ask me, it’s hardly worth the upgrade. Windows XP is still perfectly functional, and I doubt we'll see a massive, overnight shift to 7 anytime soon.

Are you out of your mind? Windows 7 is vastly different from Windows XP...
..........I don't even know anyone left using XP; everyone has moved on to 7.

Hello. I have a question, though I am unsure if this is the correct subforum. If not, please point me in the right direction. 🙂
I need to install—well, I already did—a dictionary from a CD. I have the original disc and original Windows 7. It worked perfectly fine on my old Windows, but now that I've installed it on this new Windows, nothing will open. I tried the compatibility troubleshooter, which claims it isn't compatible with the current version of Windows, so I attempted the fix mentioned below.

Still nothing. What is the issue here? The installation finished without problems, but the program won't launch. Even when I insert the CD to try and open it, nothing happens. 😕

It won't open. What does it say?

Nothing. I just hear it starting up, then it's like it "changes its mind" and stops. That's it. Nothing happens. It simply refuses to run.

What on earth is this thing called, and how long has it been around? If we're talking about some ancient 16-bit application—well, don't expect any help from the Merriam-Webster Dictionary then.

Just grab some dictionary from the web—not that you really need it, I guess, but Google Translate works wonders if you're feeling lazy 😁

Merriam-Webster Dictionary, 7th edition. There is an 8th edition out now, but my version 🙂 dates back to 2005. I think. Not sure what kind of application it actually is.

Thanks to everyone for the suggestions, but I need this specific one. Google Translate is 😱 no, seriously, it's 😁

Actually, my mistake—it's from 2007. Just double-checked.

Look, you’ve got the contact info for Merriam-Webster right there—you might as well just reach out to them directly and ask: http://elt.oup.com/contactus?cc=hr&selLanguage=en

There it is, it's working! 👋 Unbelievable. It wouldn't cooperate yesterday, and I have no idea what changed to make it work today, but it doesn't matter—it works. 😁
I probably should have just restarted it; it didn't even cross my mind. 🙄

Then this pops up right when it starts loading: the new Java Plug-In requires a recent version of the Firefox browser (Firefox 3 or later). WTF? 😕 Why now? I click OK, and the dictionary opens normally. But why am I getting that window in the first place? What does Firefox have to do with any of this?

So, here’s my situation—I’m running Windows 7, and lately, almost every single time I shut down my computer, it starts running some kind of update... it's getting pretty annoying, to be honest, and it's starting to get on my nerves a bit. I was wondering if there's any way to actually turn this stuff off, or is it just something the system is forced to do automatically whenever it feels like downloading things??

Just fire up Windows Update and go into the settings—set it so it doesn't download a single thing.

I just finished installing Windows 7, and for the most part, everything seems to be running smoothly. However, there is one nagging issue: the system isn't recognizing my
graphics card. Instead of seeing my ATI Radeon 3600, the device manager just shows "Standard VGA Graphics Adapter."
Does anyone know how I can fix this? If someone could walk me through the solution, I’d appreciate it.🙏

How do I fix this? If anyone could explain, that would be great.🙏

Just download and install the drivers.

Work in progress😉
Unfortunately, that didn't do a thing. I have no idea where exactly I botched the process during the
Windows installation, but now the system refuses to recognize the graphics card.😕

There isn't much you can actually mess up here—you just fire up the setup and let it do its thing. So, where exactly did it hit a wall?
