Sorority Row (2009)

The film looks somewhat underwhelming at first glance, yet it is currently garnering remarkably positive reviews.

The consensus suggests it is entertaining, possesses a sense of humor, and features well-executed kill scenes.

It is a slasher flick, specifically a remake of the 1983 film The house on Sorority Row, penned and directed by Mark Rosman—who later pivoted significantly toward a different genre with The Perfect Man (2005) starring Hilary Duff.

The movie is scheduled to hit American theaters on November 5th.

All things considered, it appears that aside from Final Destination and Jennifer's Body, I may have discovered another compelling horror title to watch.

It might even pull off a surprise similar to Orphan.

There’s a ton of clips from this movie floating around on YouTube right now. Honestly, it looks incredible. After all the trash horror movies we've been getting lately, this actually seems pretty legit... one of the deaths from the film if anyone's interested, you should probably check it out...

I have finished watching the film.

It is mediocre at best.

The killings lack any real ingenuity, and the resolution feels incredibly weak. As for the humor, I failed to notice much of it at all.

While there are perhaps eight murders throughout the movie, one shouldn't get too excited; only about three of them offer any actual hints of intrigue.

One aspect I did find interesting was that although the cast features six main female characters who all seem ready to face a fight, the killer occasionally targets secondary characters as well.

Even though the characterization and visual cues make it painfully obvious who the "good girl" is and who is most likely to survive, the story doesn't center on her. Instead, she remains on the periphery. The spotlight is instead placed on the so-called "bitch," Jessica, who doesn't quite live up to her reputation but does take the most initiative in the plot.

In the end, three characters survive, though I feel very little connection to any of them. Furthermore, one of the survivors is a particularly frustrating choice, as they are a totally minor character who barely appears more than three times in the entire film.

Visually, the cinematography is somewhat grainy. I initially assumed this was just an effect used during the opening, but the graininess persists throughout the entire movie, which I found quite unappealing.

The beginning of the film does a decent job of capturing a sense of fun and chaos, but the narrative should have moved on after that first party rather than repeating the same theme shortly after. It also feels somewhat unrealistic that such debauchery would be hidden behind such a deathly silence.

The killer is poorly executed; specifically, the reveal and the motives behind the murders are lackluster. Since a significant portion of the film's quality relies on these elements, the movie fails almost entirely in this regard.

The killer lacks any distinct identity, looking quite unremarkable, and their scenes pass by far too quickly.

You can safely skip this one in theaters.

I agree. It’s just a mediocre movie that you won't miss if you pass it up. The script is totally predictable, and the kills feel like every other slasher where they just thin out the crowd until two people are left standing. It felt a bit naive how easily the killer gets away with everything, only to act completely different at the end. I also agree that the motives were pretty weak and hard to buy into.
It drags a bit too long and doesn't really offer anything spectacular. You'll find yourself wondering when it'll finally end. 😁

This actually reminds me of that Simpsons episode where they show Homer and Marge back when they were young during the height of Star Wars mania. They were at the theater for "The Empire Strikes Back" two screenings in a row. During the first one, they were right there in the front, but while waiting in what felt like an endless line for tickets to the second showing, Homer just blurted out at the top of his lungs: "Who would've thought Darth Vader and Luke Skywalker were father and son!"

It’s honestly wild how much everyone around me was hyping this movie up while it was still playing in theaters. I thought people were losing their minds over it, so I finally decided to download it a few days ago. What a massive disappointment. It was a total letdown—honestly, zero stars. The absolute worst part? You figure out who the killer is right at the beginning. It’s just incredibly dull; I don't think it could have been any more pointless than it was!👎

I haven't actually sat down to watch the movie yet, but looking at this thread at first glance, I honestly thought someone was quoting that classic "Serenity Now" bit from a Seinfeld episode: 🤣

I saw this one a while back. Honestly, the only redeeming quality was the attractive cast. Everything else is pretty forgettable. You can easily skip it, though it’s not a complete disaster either. 4/10.
