Exactly. The priority is keeping him calm and getting glucose to the brain as quickly as possible. Actually, from what I understand, if there’s been a hit like this, you really want them in the ER within three hours to get the best results. That's the golden window.

Honestly, the folks at 911 are real pros—they’re incredibly fast. But at the end of the day, the most important thing is just making that call immediately to get them moving. In my experience, when it comes to something like a stroke, they prioritize you because the patient really needs to stay calm and still while waiting for help to arrive.

Did you call 911? These are textbook signs of a stroke. If you haven't called yet, get off the internet and do it right now. No hesitation. Right now, seriously.
The worst-case scenario is obviously fatal, but if they don't get medical attention immediately, we're looking at permanent, life-altering damage.

Oh, and one more thing: try not to freak him out. Keep things calm (and for heaven's sake, do NOT try to administer any medication yourself!) and just wait for the paramedics to arrive.

My own dad had those exact same symptoms during a minor stroke—we actually thought he just had too much to drink, and honestly, when someone is disoriented and not acting like themselves, they aren't exactly going to drive themselves to the hospital.
Suspecting a stroke is nothing to take lightly.

Believe me, we kept telling him he needed to go, but he just wouldn't listen... and now I've just been told my dad was rushed to the ER because his blood pressure spiked north of 200, so now I'm just sitting here waiting to hear what happens next!

Anyway... I remember catching an episode of the Oprah Winfrey Show once where Dr. Oz was a guest, discussing three simple ways to check if someone is experiencing—or about to have—a stroke. If my memory serves me correctly, the test involved seeing if they could smile, repeat a simple sentence, and a third step... I believe it was checking if they could raise an arm above their head.
The logic being that those three functions are controlled by distinct regions of the brain...

Anyway, my dad is still stuck in the hospital and I'm just waiting on my mom to get here so we can finally hear what the doctors are saying about his diagnosis, but from everything I've seen, it looks like things are looking pretty grim...😢

He’s actually at the hospital under observation now, and I think they're giving him some kind of injection to break up the clot.

Even if it isn't what people call a "classic" stroke—even if it's just some milder form of ischemia—that person needs to be in the ER immediately.

On a side note, my own mother suffered a stroke once. We rushed her to the ER, and they brushed it off completely. They told us it was nothing. I drove her there myself, and they insisted everything was fine! Then, later that same night, her blood pressure spiked back up to 200. I had to drive her to a different hospital—a major medical center this time—and it wasn't until I practically lost my mind, bringing up everything I had already been through with my dad (who we lost because of a stroke), that they finally took her seriously. And sure enough, she had suffered a stroke. Of course, she fought me on going to the hospital because she’s terrified of them... it’s just so hard. Honestly, if you haven't lived through this nightmare, please don't sit there judging others. You have no idea how paralyzed you feel in those moments. You realize how alone you truly are. In those hospitals, it often feels like they're just trying to turn you away, especially when the patient is resisting care. You're basically on your own.

Just got the news... Dad definitely had a stroke, or at least there's a serious chance he did. We're waiting on the head CT results, but since it's Sunday, the specialists aren't around yet... anyway, he's in good hands for now, I guess.
