To whom it may concern,

I am writing to ask for some guidance. I started my new cycle of Diane birth control pills this past Sunday, but I just realized today that I am one pill short, which means I definitely accidentally took two yesterday. It’s quite unlike me, but I have been under an immense amount of stress all day preparing for an exam, and now I find myself worrying about how to proceed since I will be left with a missing pill at the end of the pack 🤷. How should I handle this specific situation? 😢

Thank you all for any advice you can offer.

I only just noticed that there is a dedicated women's health forum, so I would like to kindly request that the moderators move this thread over there. My apologies for posting in the wrong place.

Look, I honestly think you just need to stick to the plan and take one a day, plain and simple. Just go back and actually read the instructions for once. My take? It’s the same deal for us—if you don't stay on top of it, you're gonna feel like crap the next day, and if you overdo it, you're just asking for trouble too.

Just keep drinking them like you normally would, depending on how you're feeling. You aren't going to keel over or anything...

But let’s be real, you clearly aren't taking your pills at the exact same time every day, otherwise you'd realize if you accidentally doubled up. Honestly, your best bet is just to set an alarm on your phone so you hit that window perfectly every single morning. That way, you'll actually minimize those side effects and stop running into these weird issues in the first place.

But clearly, you aren't taking your pills at the exact same time every day, because if you were, you'd realize you had accidentally doubled up. Honestly, your best bet is to set a recurring alarm on your phone so you can take them at the precise same moment daily. That way, you'll minimize side effects and avoid these little panics altogether.

Thank you so much to you and Maria Gray45 for the advice. I actually do have an alarm set on my phone, but I completely mismanaged things that evening; I ended up silencing the alarm when it went off at 9:00 PM, and then when I was getting ready for bed around 11:00 PM, I realized I had "forgotten" my pill and took it then. In the interim, I had popped into the kitchen to grab some tea, and I think I might have inadvertently taken one of them before the 11:00 PM dose.
Thanks again for looking out for me, ladies; I was truly starting to worry myself sick.

You might experience some spotting next month... think of it as a sort of "mini-period" occurring between your regular cycles.

Nah, that usually only happens if you've missed several pills in a row, or maybe just during that first month you start taking them...

nothing bad is gonna happen to you! it happened to me twice already with the same brand, just like

it did to you. don't sweat it, your body will just take what it needs from the extra dose, and honestly the worst thing that might happen is

maybe a little headache or something like that...👍

Well, I find myself in a bit of a predicament after doing the exact same thing... I realized just yesterday that I made a slight error and am actually one dose short. I was planning on taking one today and then another tomorrow, but I only have one left in my possession. I suppose I’m feeling somewhat uncertain about whether it would be wise to take this one today, leaving me with nothing for tomorrow. I am worried that doing so might disrupt my entire schedule and throw off my next seven-day break. Typically, I start my first dose on a Saturday, but if I take this final one today, my next cycle would begin on a Friday instead. Since I started this regimen, I have maintained such a consistent weekly pattern. Does the specific day of the week truly not matter in this regard? Perhaps it might be more prudent if I held off today and simply took the last dose tomorrow instead?

Now I'm supposed to take one today and another one tomorrow, but I only have one left. I'm really not sure if it's smart to take this one today and then be empty-handed tomorrow... I'm worried about throwing off my whole cycle and messing up my seven-day break. Usually, I start my first pack on a Saturday, but if I take the last one today, my next start date shifts to Friday. Since I started this, I've always kept the same weekly schedule... does the specific day really not matter at all? Maybe it's better to skip today and just take that last one tomorrow instead?

I had a moment like that once too where I was positive I was following the schedule perfectly, only to realize I was missing a pill. It turns out I probably just grabbed the last one in the pack instead of the next one in line because I wasn't checking the dates—I just flipped the blister pack over. You really have to watch the days so you don't get confused.

Hey ladies, I could really use a little guidance here. So, I was supposed to take the very first pill from my pack today, but in a total moment of brain fog, I accidentally grabbed the one meant for day 22 instead. Now I’m sitting here panicking and wondering what the move is... Should I just go ahead and take the correct one for today right now on top of the one I already swallowed, or is that a bad idea? I know the hormone levels change with every single pill in the pack, but I’ve seriously never messed up this badly before...

Which brand are you on?
Whether it's something like Diane, Yasmin, or Yaz, they all work pretty much the same way.

Yaz doesn't have all the same tablets—I'm guessing that might be what he's actually getting at.

You've got a point there. They include four placebo pills in those packs. If that's where the confusion is coming from, then the whole thing is a mess. 🙄
It's best to just give the doctor a call and get some clarity.
