Does a CT scan for spinal issues actually require contrast injection? My sister had a nasty allergic reaction once, and since she needs to get scanned soon, I’m trying to figure out if we can avoid it. I know they usually use it for brain imaging, but does it apply to the spine too?

Thanks!

Nah, you don't need to.🙂

But what if it actually is necessary? If she can't handle it, then that's just how it goes...🤷
Look, I know for a fact that I had to use contrast dye when I went in for my brain CT scan. My doctor was very clear about it—he told me straight up that they wouldn't be able to see a thing without it...😉

Look, I already know I should have gone with the contrast when I was getting that brain CT scan. The doctor was pretty clear about it—he told me straight up that if we didn't use it, we wouldn't see a damn thing.😉

It really all comes down to what they’re actually looking for with the head CT. If they were checking out her vascular structure, they’d almost certainly need contrast to get a clear picture. But she’s getting a scan for bone and cartilage issues, which show up perfectly fine without any dye at all. So, honestly, the chances of them using contrast are pretty slim. Besides, even if they wanted to, they can't exactly force it on her. 😁 She isn't being difficult. If she just tells them she has an allergy, they'll find an alternative in no time. Honestly, I don't know why people waste so much energy on this kind of drama.
