It’s like there’s some unwritten rule about how old you have to be before you’re officially "too old" to write about music or act as a critic!
So what does that mean for Juraja Šiftar? I mean, he’s definitely right up there in that age bracket too!

Of course I can't, but honestly, just because they've been around forever doesn't mean the magazine is actually any good. Those people have always been total morons, not just starting now.

But honestly, people living in the past are just total morons, which is probably even worse...

Dammit! I honestly thought Babogredac was some cool underground band out of Chicago—you know, a group of punks who play cards while they perform, because if you try to say the name "Babogredac" fast enough, you'll inevitably slip up and end up saying something much more profane.

With those guys writing for MTV, my issue isn't even that they're stuck in the past. I wouldn't go that far... it's more that they have these completely senile perspectives on music. What's worse is how they bizarrely pick which modern bands are actually "worth noting." Usually, it’s just mainstream acts that aren't quite top-tier, but they possess what the writers call "rock energy," and apparently, that's all that matters. It’s almost always the absolute worst subset of today's rock scene.

Since my old group of rocker buddies eventually wore me down and turned me into a total folk-rock enthusiast, I’ve been doing a bit of reading. Passing along this dense, cryptic piece by some folk legend about the music industry and how impossible it is to actually make a living now that computers are basically rewiring our brains.

Oh, and one more thing—calling something a "sound carrier" is easily the most ridiculous, outdated term I've ever heard.

Rolling Stone doesn't seem to have any sense of direction.
One minute they’re covering international news, and the next they’re focused on local stories.
It’s just constant back-and-forth between old classics and whatever trendy thing is happening right now. They really need to pick a lane. And while they're at it, they should probably fix their visual identity—it's a bit of a mess.

I messed up and picked up the second issue of The Lumineers too. What can I say? Total waste of money.

There are exactly three reviews. There’s an article on Depeche Mode that just lifts sentences straight from their biography. The only thing that might have been worth a glance was the piece on Florence + The Machine and Amy Winehouse, but honestly... you can find much better stuff online anyway.

Everything else is still a disaster. From the "quality" of the writing to the actual quality of the paper. The only redeeming feature is the bonus DVD with some decent music videos—assuming you skip half of them. They’ve got a good shot of a GWAR concert, a Jack White video, and so on.

It’s a shame it’s this bad. We need something actually high-quality in this space. Something covering current events. Instead, we get these "analytical" essays on U2 that lack any fresh info (Hrvoje Horvat).
