Weird SSD speeds

So, I decided to wipe my drive today right before doing a clean OS install.

My 500GB SSD was absolutely crawling, dragging along at a pathetic 90MB/s.

But then, once it hit about the 90% mark, the speed suddenly spiked up to nearly 400 MB/s.

Can anyone make sense of this?

How's it running now? Guess you finished installing Windows.

I haven't run any tests just yet. It was working fine before, but it felt like something was dragging it down and keeping it from hitting its full potential. And yeah, I installed Windows 7.

Is AHCI enabled in the BIOS? Also—just looking at your notes here—it looks like you used DBAN to wipe the drive. As far as I know, that software is really meant for HDDs and doesn't handle SSDs properly for a clean wipe. For an SSD, you're much better off using the specific toolbox provided by the manufacturer.
