I think Lewis handled things perfectly... he attempted to overtake Kimi, but Kimi shut the door, leaving him with almost no options. Especially in those wet conditions where braking is so unpredictable. To avoid a collision, Lewis had to go wide. He ultimately let Kimi through just to ensure there wouldn't be any controversy about gaining an unfair advantage—and since Kimi finished that lap ahead anyway, he didn't gain a single spot. What happened on the following lap? Kimi braked early while Lewis braked late and surged past. They touched a few times during those final laps, but honestly, that's just racing. I don't see them penalizing anyone after the fact.

The question isn't how much room Lewis gave Kimi, but rather the fact that he gave it at all. At the entry to the turn, Lewis was about a foot ahead of Kimi according to the footage, and that's exactly how much space he conceded right after the bend.

It was a massive blunder by Ferrari not to pit for fresh tires on the heavy car. He had a 33-second cushion over fourth place, and a pit stop would have cost him roughly 17 seconds. He would have come out ahead and could have pressured the top two drivers—he likely would have won. He had absolutely nothing to lose, especially since staying out on those worn-out tires was a far riskier gamble.

While Lewis was pulling that "letting him through" stunt, Kimi really should have just backed off a bit and let the master pass into the pit lane.

I'm right there with you—I can't remember the last time I saw a finish that intense!
