For this film adaptation of the novel City of Ember Jeanne Duprau, some heavy hitters from Hollywood teamed up. The rights were picked up by Tom Hanks' production company, which assembled a stellar cast led by rising stars—Saoirse Ronan and Harry Treadaway, who you might recognize from Control.
On top of that, the screenplay was handled by the well-known Caroline Thompson, who has worked on several scripts for Tim Burton. Behind the camera, we have Gil Kennan, the director behind Monster House. Despite all those big names, the real treats are Bill Murray and Tim Robbins, playing the mayor and a mysterious resident from the city's underbelly."
