Question about highway workers

There are plenty of deep mysteries out there in this world, but honestly, I’m more preoccupied with this one:

Take the folks working at those gas stations right off the interstate—how on earth do they get home if their house is in the opposite direction? Do they just cruise all the way to the next exit and double back, or is there some secret workaround I don't know about? Hmm?

I know it’s definitely not the "official" way to do things, but I've seen people use those median cutouts more than once... they just pull a U-turn right onto the highway. Something you could never dream of pulling off in Switzerland—you'd lose your license instantly—but here, you'd probably just lose your job for a bit.

Honestly, I've seen plenty of them—not just gas station crews, but road maintenance guys, construction workers, all sorts.
One time, seeing someone pull a move like that almost cost me my life—those two idiots in the red Chevy nearly caused a wreck (I actually wrote about that over on an auto forum back then)...

From what I gather... those construction crews working on the interstate expansion... they just live out of their trailers right there on the shoulder... they don't even bother heading home at night...🤷

Pure nonsense, absolute nonsense... they’re born there... they live there, they work there... 🤣 and honestly, what an utter waste of time...

It depends...
If they’re positioned near an entrance or an exit, they just head out that way.
But if they’re stuck far from an exit, most of those major interstate stops have service roads behind the station.
I can't think of a specific location right now.
It’s kind of like how the garbage trucks handle their routes.
I was actually curious about this myself once, so I asked around, but the specific examples have slipped my mind.

I know I'm digging up a dead thread here... but if anyone is still looking for info... XD... regarding those rest stops or gas stations—there’s a bypass leading off the main highway onto the local roads. For the most part, they're a bit of a pain to get to.
