Movie genres

Hello everyone,

During my psychology lecture today, I had an idea: it would be much more efficient to categorize movies by specific motifs or themes rather than just genre. 😁

Take, for instance, a recurring trope that appears constantly:

FATHER-SON RELATIONSHIP MOVIES
Billy Elliot
Big Fish

LIFE IS ABSURD
Broken Flowers
Lost in Translation

GIRL, INTERRUPTED
Girl, Interrupted
One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest

CRUEL REALITY
Life Is Beautiful

What other categories come to mind for you? It would be useful to compile as many of these thematic groupings as possible to bring some order to the chaos.
Go ahead—let me see how you approach this.

For example:
Mulholland Drive
Munich
Amélie
The Ring

How would you define those categories?

TERMINATOR

terminator
terminator 2: judgment day
terminator 3: rise of the machines
terminator salvation: the future begins

And what exactly drives the Terminator?

By "motif," I mean a theme condensed into a single sentence. It isn't actually that complicated 😉

Friday the 13th, Friday the 13th Part 2, Friday the 13th Part 3, Friday the 13th Part 4: The Final Chapter, Friday the 13th Part 5: A New Beginning, Friday the 13th Part 6: Jason Lives, Friday the 13th Part 7: The New Blood, Friday the 13th Part 8: Jason Takes Manhattan, Jason Goes to Hell, Jason X, Jason vs. Freddy, Friday the 13th (remake).

They're all horror movies. All sequels to Friday the 13th. In every single one, Jason kills.

Well, if you look just beneath the surface, the central theme across all four movies is—Terminator 😉

It seems my topic hasn't exactly captured anyone's attention, despite there being significant potential here. 😉

I just couldn't get past this...
Like, in the first one, the 1980 friday the 13th, Pamela Voorhees—Jason's mom—gets killed. He only shows up in that last scene, and then he's the one killing people starting with the sequel.
