I was looking at some numbers earlier and it’s kind of wild how much certain massive releases are pulling in lately. It feels like we’ve spent the last few years in this weird drought where everything feels mid or just "content" meant to fill a streaming queue, but then every once in a while, a massive spectacle comes along that actually forces people to get off their couches and go to a theater.
I remember back in the day, you almost *had* to see the big summer blockbusters on the big screen to be part of the cultural conversation. Now, it feels like that’s been broken for a long time. But seeing these massive, high-budget epics absolutely crush it so quickly makes me wonder if we’re seeing a shift back to "event" cinema, or if we're just seeing the power of a single director's brand.
