quietskipper17 said:exactly that 👍 my commute to work 12 miles involves riding my bike from April through November; the rest of the year depends on whether the weather permits...

If I lived closer to 3.1 miles I’d be out there all year round without a second thought...

What are you people complaining about? My ride to work is barely a mile 🙂 That's it 1.6 miles!

Still, it's ridiculous how I managed to get soaked to the bone in just five minutes. Left the house under clear skies and a summer sun, then a downpour hit two minutes later. Done for.

Well, nothing much happens 😁 just pointing out that your 40 1.6 miles isn't quite the same as my 40...

The guy who actually started this thread (George—who also happens to be banned now😁) basically just wanted a way to deal with his hygiene issues when biking to work. It’s safe to assume people commuting just a few miles shouldn't really have these kinds of struggles—unless, of course, they live at the peak of Mount Rainier or Central Park or something. That doesn't mean anyone else should be sidelined or labeled because of it, though. Ughh, there I go rambling again 😉

Nah, not even close. I wasn't thinking anything bad at all, I guess I’m just a little jealous of those guys with short commutes. They have the luxury of riding in whatever weather or clothes they want... For me, it's just not an option to ride my bike in jeans and a T-shirt. I'm basically forced into full cycling gear and then having to shower once I get to work. Yeah, yeah... luckily my office has a shower, and I'm seriously thankful for that 😁

Look, I wasn't just taking a shot at you—I just got the (maybe wrong🤷) impression that some people in this thread care more about how many miles they're putting in than actually showing up to work on two wheels😉

Took the bike to work for the first time today... covered about 6.2 miles... It actually went smoother than I anticipated... My backside is a little sore, though, since it's mostly used to couches, car seats, and office chairs rather than a saddle.
I'm expecting some muscle soreness later, but I suppose that should improve with time.

Every single day, my commute to and from work adds up to 7.8 miles. I’ve got quite a bit of ground to cover, so there's never a dull moment for me. :-)
I ride through pretty much any weather you can throw at me, as long as it isn't pouring rain, snowing on the roads, or hitting those brutal heatwaves north of 100 degrees.
Just to give you an idea, last month alone I clocked in about 99 miles, even though I took a week and a half off from the bike.
That represents some serious savings right there. Usually, my wife just drops me off at the office and picks me up later, so if I were driving, I'd be looking at a total saving of roughly 199 miles. Not too shabby, right?
Plus, honestly, I show up to work feeling so much better after a ride.

I really don't get people who find it weird that I pedal through those miserable 3.7 miles just to get to work or back home.

Who cares?

You know why?

Because:
because this way I actually show up to work feeling way happier.

👍

The absolute truth about biking to work😉

Oh, right.
All those arguments about saving gas or cutting down on travel time aren't really my main concern—to be honest, I just feel significantly better since I started cycling.
I also only tend to do 4.0 miles one way.

I biked to work today, 2.2 miles but I ended up riding home with a massive rip in my pants right in the crotch area 😁.
How do you guys deal with this issue?

To be fair, those pants were already pretty worn out in that spot and had been patched once before, but now I’m wondering if there’s a trick to preventing this from happening again.

I guess we'll see how it goes tomorrow with a different pair. 😁

If you have somewhere to change, maybe wear bike shorts or some sweats 👍

I’m glad this topic popped up; I was actually considering picking up some Russian imports. I just didn't anticipate the sheer amount of sweat involved.

In the end, I’ll just grab a basket. It's better to have peace of mind and a light load, regardless of what anyone thinks of my choices.😛

15 miles in one direction?
Nice route... I’ve got about 10% of that 😁

A few years back, I was dealing with about 10-6.8 miles..
Thank God I don't have to deal with that 😁

My job doesn't have a dress code (besides sneakers and tees), so I just rock some Toms and show up looking decent instead of soaking wet like a drowned rat 😁
But hey, I could pull off a suit if I had to... 🙂

I’ve gotta go all out, full intensity, because once I overheat, nothing else even matters😁

Sometimes I actually envy women who get to drive1.9 miles wearing skirts and just being casual😁
