🙄I’ve scrolled through endless pages online and even grilled my OB-GYN, but somehow it’s always these forums where I actually find what I’m looking for 🙂

So, here's the deal—I’ve been dealing with this super light spotting for two days now, and I have zero clue why.
The kicker is that my period is already 8 days late (!!!), so when I saw blood yesterday, I actually felt a sense of relief—but this isn't a full period, it's just... something else. 🙄

I don't think I'm pregnant—the only potentially risky encounter I had was about 10 days ago, but I really doubt that's it.

Could this be caused by a virus or the flu?

Or maybe it's a lingering effect from the Plan B I took a couple of months back?

Please share your experiences—any advice at all is welcome 🙂

So, here's the thing... I've been dealing with this super light spotting for two days now, and honestly? I have zero clue what's actually going on...
So, weird thing... my period is like, 8 days late (!!!). I actually got myself all excited yesterday when I finally saw some spotting, thinking it was finally happening, but it’s definitely not a full period. It’s more like... just a little something that looks vaguely like one... anyway... 🙄

I don't think I'm pregnant... probably just one... Maybe... potentially... I was feeling pretty critical about things like ten days ago, but honestly... I don't think that's really what's going on now.

Could it be just a virus or maybe the flu...? Sometimes everything just hits you at once... hard to tell with these seasonal bugs going around lately...

Or maybe it was those emergency contraceptives I was taking back a couple of months ago...?

I'm all ears... seriously, if you've got any experiences to share or even just a little bit of advice, please throw it my way. I really need all the help I can get right now... 🙂

Wait, if I'm getting this right, you haven't actually taken your pills for two months now? If that's the case, your body is probably still just trying to figure itself out... everything's basically still adjusting...
So, I've been on the pill for like 11 months now... and honestly, almost every single month I deal with this annoying spotting. It just keeps happening... 😠
I've already swapped them out a few times... but honestly, what can you do...
It’ll pass... even if you were being super careful, that period might still show up. Honestly, maybe it’s just the stress or all that pressure of waiting for something that hasn't happened yet... that's how it was for me when I thought I was pregnant...
So, I basically just filled up the tub with scalding water and sat there... like, for ages. Just stayed in until the water went totally cold. I was honestly just desperate... seriously, I was at my wits' end... needed that heat to help open up my sinuses... 😁So, it’s just been like that... all morning, all night... I'm totally wiped out. Honestly, I think I've officially hit my limit for tomorrow... 👍

Yeah—I took a high-dose emergency contraceptive about two months ago to get that morning-after effect, but nothing since then.
So, could those pills be the culprit?

Yeah, I’ve heard stories about that. But if I remember correctly—correct me if I'm wrong—you're supposed to take them within 48 hours of sex, right? They're meant to prevent implantation or whatever...
Of course they can mess things up, especially if you took four times the regular amount. That’s not nothing...
Hmm, I’m on Lo Loestral right now, which is supposed to have the lowest hormone levels (I switched from Yasmin because I was bleeding every single month—not fun), but I still get this random spotting here and there...
...
Honestly? Just fill up the bathtub and sit in it until the water gets cold. It really helped me out once...👍👍

I've heard about that kind of spotting happening after taking high doses of birth control pills... but if you're saying this happened two months ago, I doubt there’s any connection there...

I mean, they're hormones, right? It happens... could even keep happening for a couple of months after...

That could very well be the culprit right there...

But tell me, what kind of "day after" pills were you actually taking? Were you just doubling up on standard birth control, or did you go out and get the specific ones designed for that exact purpose? From what I can gather, it sounds like you just took a massive dose of regular 😕
and frankly, I don't think playing fast and loose with 🤷 hormones is particularly wise...

Hey, what kind of pills did you end up taking for the morning-after? Did you just use regular birth control, or did you grab the specific ones meant for that... you know, the emergency stuff? From what I gathered, you just took a higher dose of your normal ones... 😕
I don't know... honestly? Probably not the brightest move... 🤷 It's always the hormones... honestly. Everything just feels off and you can't even put your finger on why... just one day you're fine and the next everything is a mess...

☕

Yeah, I’m with you on that. But honestly, when things like this happen, that's usually how people handle it... mostly because your body is just trying to kick that thing out and needs something a bit more heavy-duty to get the job done...
So, I heard somewhere that girls usually just get the standard birth control pills—you know, like Yaz or maybe even Diane—but they basically give you a higher dose... I think it’s like two pills at once or something? Don't quote me on that though...
Honestly, I’m pretty much 100% certain... it’s gotta be the birth control. It just makes sense...
Honestly, Grace Foster65, I wouldn't be shocked if you end up dealing with some more spotting... everyone always says the same thing—it’s just the hormones acting up and there's really no messing around with that stuff. Keeping my fingers crossed for you... 👍

So, a friend was just telling me she had the exact same thing happen after she took a higher dose of Yasmin... she ended up taking three pills at once... and then the spotting started maybe five or six days later.

I mean, that’s not exactly the smartest move—messing with those 🤷 hormones...

☕

I just did exactly what my doctor told me to do—he gave me Trinovum and said to take two tablets immediately, then another two twelve hours later.

Apparently, in the US, they don't always have the dedicated emergency pills available, so people end up using regular birth control at these insane doses 🙄

It's awful.

I first noticed spotting after a massive shock—lost a close family member and ended up in a deep depression, lost a ton of weight too. Since then, one of these three things—if not all three—has triggered it. Now, I get spotting right before my period every single month; it starts the day before, and since it doesn't last long, I just count that as the start of my cycle. It’s usually just one day tops.
And honestly, until recently, I had no clue there was actually a name for this. Apparently, it’s tied to hormonal imbalances triggered by something specific—in my case, intense emotional stress.
It’s nothing major, though. You should definitely check in with your OB-GYN about it, but I don't think there's any reason to panic.😉

You really need to schedule an appointment with your OB-GYN as soon as possible. Light spotting can definitely be a sign of pregnancy, especially if you've already missed your period.

I’m dusting off this old thread 🙂 because I got a little spooked. About four days ago, I started some light spotting on day 27 of my cycle, even though my period usually doesn't show up until day 33 or 34. I haven't had any typical PMS symptoms or stomach cramps, just this tiny, slow trickle. For the last two cycles, I've also dealt with sharp pains in my left ovary a few days before my period starts—it's actually painful enough that I have to take an Advil.
Has anyone else dealt with something similar or does anyone have any insight? 🙏

one question, a thousand answers 😢

there are basically a thousand ways to answer this—and only one right one
unfortunately, it's not just that we can't help you here; honestly, you're lucky if even an OB-GYN knows what's going on

I've dealt with irregular bleeding quite a bit myself. Not sure if they all stem from the same thing, but ever since I cleared up my yeast infection—seriously, what a nightmare—it's been gone for six months now

and since you mentioned it, brightbadger69, it sounds like you're talking about E. coli... if you still have it, that could easily be the culprit. I was reading up on the symptoms earlier, and once I connected the dots with my own history, it all clicked

Thanks! Thankfully, I’m finally clear of E. coli. My test results have come back clean twice now, though I'm still dealing with some inflammation. It isn't on my cervix, so I suspect it might be a hormonal issue. Even though my doctor at Mayo Clinic mentioned inflammation, I think I'll head to a specialist for a second opinion. ☕

It could totally be the hormones
I’ve got PCOS, so I’m pretty sure some of this bleeding is tied to that—not just random E. coli issues—but honestly, it’s complicated, and I wouldn't want to give you a definitive answer without knowing more.

Does it seem like it's happening in relation to sex?

Started taking Logest this past Wednesday, right on day one of my period... first time ever using any kind of birth control. My cycle usually lasts about 5 or 6 days.
But it's Tuesday now, the bleeding stopped back on Saturday, and I’m still dealing with this constant light spotting...????
Is this supposed to be the spotting everyone talks about? And is there any way to make it stop?😕😕😕😕

I’ve dealt with plenty of that irregular bleeding myself. Honestly, I don't know if they all stem from the same thing, but ever since I finally ditched diet pills :holy crap: they've completely vanished—and that was six months ago.

Did you have any other symptoms besides the bleeding? I'm starting to suspect some kind of infection myself...🤷

There are literally a thousand ways to answer this one question, but really, only one is actually right—
unfortunately, not even the people on this forum can give you a straight answer, and honestly, you're lucky if your OBGYN actually knows what's happening.

I've dealt with quite a bit of irregular bleeding myself—I don't know if all cases stem from the same thing—but ever since I finally cleared out that E. coli issue (ugh, what a nightmare!), it hasn't happened once, and that was six months ago!

And since you were talking, brightbadger69, about E. coli, if you still have it, it is super possible that the bacteria is the culprit. I was reading up on the symptoms earlier, and when I put my own history of having it show up on a Pap smear together with what I read, everything just clicked.

Hey, let me ask you—I wasn't sure if you're on birth control pills and dealing with spotting, or if you aren't taking anything at all?
Because when I was on them for a month, I had this light spotting for almost fifteen days straight, only to find out later that I actually had an E. coli infection—so now I'm stuck wondering if it was the bacteria causing the mess or just my body adjusting to the hormones?

How did you actually find out about the erythrasma? Was it through vaginal swabs or just a standard urine test? Because even though my OBGYN is covered by Medicaid, I could always swing by my primary care doctor to get this beast checked out... or really any bacteria for that matter...🤷...
