So, I’ve been dealing with elevated AST levels for a couple of years now. It used to hover somewhere between 300 and 800, but it just spiked—it’s sitting north of 5,000 right now! I don't actually feel sick (thank God), and since I’m pretty active with sports, I was wondering if anyone else here has dealt with something similar?
My ENT suggested I undergo surgery for a deviated septum, which apparently makes breathing difficult and is causing some secondary issues—my tonsils are looking pretty rough, too...
The reason I'm asking is that I’ve heard a few different doctors suggest that if you aren't experiencing symptoms, you shouldn't take high AST levels too seriously...
Thanks!
Oh, and for context, I'm 23.

My ENT told me I need nasal surgery to fix a deviated septum because it's messing with my breathing and causing issues elsewhere (my tonsils are in bad shape...).

Also, I'm 23.

Your strep is running wild and throwing a party in those ragged tonsils that aren't even doing their job anymore. You need to get that sorted out immediately if you don't want your health to completely tank!

By the way, the correct acronym for titer is ASO.
I totally misread it as a liver test, and let me tell you, my heart nearly jumped out of my chest.

I’m dealing with a 5120 reading myself. I actually had a higher measurement when I was a kid, but it dropped down to 250 about two years ago before climbing back up to 5120. I'm still struggling with how to get this back to a normal range, especially since I’ve already had my tonsils removed. I’m not experiencing any actual pain, but it’s still weighing on me. I’d really like to understand the potential long-term health implications of this.

Look, if you aren't actually feeling any symptoms, there's really no point in seeking treatment. You treat the actual illness, not just some random thing showing up on a lab report...
