Honestly, they're one of the best bands ever, in my opinion. Not much is known about the singer, Michael Hutchence, besides him doing some art film when he was young. The band is from Perth. Michael struggled with depression and ended up dying in a pretty bizarre way. He tied a belt around his neck while masturbating—apparently, there's this theory that you get a better orgasm if you constrict your circulation. But he went too far, didn't let go of the belt, and suffocated. Pretty intense, right? Beyond the beautiful songs they left behind, there isn't much info out there about him or the band. And a band with a new singer just isn't INXS anymore, if you know what I mean.

It’s not Hutchins—it’s Hutchence.
And honestly, there's plenty to know if you just bother to Google it. 🙂

The movie you're probably thinking of is "Dogs in Space"
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dogs_in_Space

Also, regarding the late Paula Yates—she has a daughter, and her ex-husband, Bob Geldof, wants to adopt her and change her last name to Geldof. The Hutchence family is fighting to keep her, they're even circulating petitions... it's an absolute mess.

That's the assumption, anyway—that's how he died.
The official police report states he took his own life due to depression—mixing antidepressants with alcohol and all that. That’s the official line from the cops, the family, and everyone else involved. There is absolutely nothing in there suggesting he was masturbating, though—which, let's be real, is entirely possible.

There was a solid documentary about him on PBS a few months back.

When it comes to music, I used to be really into that band back in the day—it was a whole thing. I still find myself spinning their tracks every now and then, though I don't really dive into them like I used to. It's more of a rare occurrence these days.
I’m signing off on this new one—Ashley Smith5.

U2's track "Stuck in a moment you can't get out of" is basically all about Michael Hutchence http://www.songfacts.com/detail.php?id=480
On his official site—link's up there somewhere—they've posted the full text of the book "Just a man," which his mom and sister wrote to finally tell the real story about who he actually was.

On his official page—the link for which was mentioned above—you can find the full text of the book "Just a man," written by his mother and sister to share the actual truth about who he really was and the kind of person he truly was.

And regarding him... well, it's just ~fate~

Help, I was actually just looking for a U2 thread, but even using an advanced search, nothing came up; perhaps because it requires a specific username? Does one exist??

Then I stumble upon this site and there it is. 🙂 I heard it was about a friend who took his own life..
Good grief, I just Googled how he died—apparently, he "passed away in a bizarre fashion, gasping for breath during an orgasm."

Anyway, my dear INXS fans...

I don't have all the songs... just 13.

Here are the lyrics to "By My Side."

In the dark of the night
Those small hours
Uncertain and anxious
I need to call you

Room's full of strangers
Some call me friend
But I wish you were so close to me

In the dark of night
Those small hours
I drift away
When I'm with you

In the dark of night
By my side
In the dark of night
By my side, by my side, by my side
I wish you were
I wish you were

Here comes the clown
His face in a wall
No window
No air at all

In the dark of night
Those faces they haunt me
But I wish you were
So close to me

In the dark of night

By my side
By my side
I wish you were
I wish you were
By my side

In the dark of night
Those faces they haunt me
I wish you were so close to me

Yes I wish you were
By my side

It describes the night so beautifully... that specific time when thoughts and feelings become crystal clear during insomnia, when ghosts seem to haunt you even before dawn, and you finally realize what truly matters.

By the way, I have the song "Slide Away" by Michael and Bono—it’s alright... I suppose it can't quite overshadow U2's songwriting or INXS's biggest hits, though it is good enough.

I'm listening to U2's killer debut "U2" and R.E.M.'s amazing first record "Murmur" back-to-back, and man, I can't believe how much they vibe together. U2 is easily my #2 band—and honestly, who cares if critics trashed their first album? They couldn't be more wrong. Maybe R.E.M. feels a bit more polished on "Murmur" just because of Michael Stipe's whole vibe, but still... and look, once Michael Hutchence passed, it was game over for U2 in my book. No one is ever replacing him.

Whether you’re a die-hard fan or just passing through, that show at Boogalo was absolutely killer.
I honestly couldn't wrap my head around how much pure energy and soul the Ferris brothers and their crew poured into that set... especially considering they were playing to a measly crowd of maybe 600 or 800 people. Fast forward a couple of days to their gig in Chicago—they're pulling 15,000!

Oh, and just so you know, the very last thing they played was Don't Change.
That track alone says everything a real fan needs to hear.😉

They played in the courtyard at the SKCa venue, which holds maybe 2,000 people when it's packed to the rafters. I don't know the exact headcount, but there's no way it was anywhere near 15,000. It's the same story as that other concert—moved to a smaller space because nobody showed up.

It's the same deal as that other concert where they had to move everything to a smaller space just because nobody showed up.

Oh, really?
The papers were straight-up claiming 15,000 to 20,000 people were there. 🤷 🤣

...correction:

The concert in Belgrade happened before the one in Chicago—and honestly, there was barely anyone there. We aren't talking hundreds... their venue felt half-empty, and the atmosphere? Nonexistent. It was nothing like the absolute madness at Boogalo, where the energy was practically electric.

My bad, everyone.
I just remembered; we were actually talking about Roxy Music (if I’m not totally tripping again) 😁
(And no, RM never played a show in Chicago, I know 🙂 )

I love this band. They’re the reason I actually got into rock. Great lyrics, even better energy—everything about them just works. 😁
It’s a shame Michael is gone, but I have to say, this new JD is solid. Obviously, they can't replicate the original lineup, but they've stepped up to the plate quite well. Their 2005 album "Switch" is surprisingly high quality, and that concert in Chicago was absolutely incredible. 😛
I read somewhere recently that U2's "Stuck in a moment you Can't get out of" was dedicated to Michael because Bono and him were supposedly close friends. *sigh*
Anyway, let's pivot: what’s your favorite album? Favorite track? Let's hear it.

Don't change
i'm standing here on the ground...

Nothing beats the absolute best. They played their final set to a brass band, and man, it was a total blowout 😁

Whether it's > or >, they're just untouchable. Pure, flawless pop-rock perfection.

Look, I don't care what anyone else thinks. I'm just giving you my two cents. 🙂

But seriously, > totally lost his mind.
He's actually posting this garbage on some big-shot American music site.

Great. I mean, I hold Michael in such high regard that nobody else could ever step in. They should've just rebranded the band the second he passed—kind of like how Joy Division became New order. That way, fans wouldn't be split between die-hards like me and people like you who think Switch is fine. I'm not spinning them right now, but I'll definitely be back to them eventually. INXS has that danceable energy—that real fire—that Michael used to bring to the stage.

I’m sitting here listening to the album X from 1990—honestly, this is exactly how pop-rock ought to sound.

Dissapear, by my side, Lately, Hear that sound... man, what absolute gems.

I really need to track down that Wembley live recording; this looks incredible:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VzjXlW8ZC8E

Sure, there are plenty of great tracks scattered across their other albums, but none of them feel quite as cohesive or complete as X.
now I’m actually feeling a bit of regret that I didn't start digging into their discography sooner—if I had, I almost certainly would have made the trip to catch them during their tour stop in Chicago..

New track alert:

http://soundcloud.com/inxs/4697-20110915/s-SyupY

The new vocalist is Ciarán Gribbin—though you might have seen the tabloids claiming it was actually Bono 🤦 .
Personally, I think it’s quite brilliant 🙂
