Our 9-year-old daughter started experiencing some pain in her right breast about two weeks ago after we happened to touch it, and honestly, it sent us into a bit of a panic. After checking her,
it feels like there’s this circular ring around the nipple that hurts when you apply light pressure. I should mention that the ring—or whatever you want to call it—is perfectly round, and I'm fairly certain this is just part of her developing breasts rather than anything more serious. We saw a specialist at the hospital who told us
that it really is just due to growth, which her pediatrician also confirmed over the phone.
They said we should just keep an eye on it, and if we stay worried, they'll refer us to a specialist in New York. Since
this is only happening on the right side and the left side looks completely normal, my husband
is pretty anxious and wants us to get an ultrasound just to be absolutely sure. I guess
I'm just wondering if an ultrasound can actually confirm what's going on.
If anyone else has dealt with something similar, please reach out. We would be
really grateful for any insight.

It's just puberty. When I was exactly nine, the exact same thing happened to me—it started on my left side first, and then a few months later, it showed up on the right. I remember the first time I felt the pain was when I leaned against the edge of a desk at school. I was terrified because my grandmother had just undergone breast surgery around that same time.
Don't stress; your daughter is just starting to mature. It might be happening a little early, but that's just how biology works. Just be ready, because she could get her first period any day now. I got mine when I was only 10. If you haven't sat down and talked to her about it yet, now is the time. Even though I knew it was coming, I was still pretty spooked when it finally happened at age 10.

I don't really get why everyone is panicking... mine started hurting right around age 9 too (back when I used to call them my "growing pains"), and it didn't all happen at once. It's just puberty.🙂

Thanks for the quick reply, we feel a lot better now.

It probably wouldn't hurt to get a thyroid checkup, just in case.
