About a year ago, I was diagnosed with a +2.5 prescription in my left eye, while my right eye was perfectly fine. Since then, things have taken a bit of a turn; my left eye has climbed to +3.0, and my right eye has developed a +0.5. To make matters worse, according to my ophthalmologist, my vision in that left eye has dropped to just 30% capacity. Even though the +3.0 prescription doesn't seem to be doing much for me anymore, my doctor seems hesitant to increase it further.
Has anyone dealt with something similar or have any advice? I’m feeling pretty lost on whether I should just go get a new pair of glasses or if I need to push for more extensive testing at a specialist clinic.
Honestly, I'm starting to get really worried that I might lose the sight in my left eye entirely...

It all depends on what’s actually causing that vision loss. You really need to figure out if we're talking about retinal issues—like if there's diabetes in the picture—or maybe something with the lens, the cornea, or even intraocular pressure? There are a million variables here. Honestly, the smartest move is to book an appointment with an actual ophthalmologist immediately—because clearly, your doctor isn't going to provide the answers you're looking for here on a forum. I’d suggest heading straight to Mayo Clinic or Johns Hopkins.👍

If you're in the States, just hit up an Optica shop, book an appointment, and you won't drop more than $100 on the whole thing. They basically do everything—they’ll even measure your tear ducts or whatever; they know it all, honestly acting like they're straight out of CSI... good luck!

What kind of vision loss are we even talking about? Just put on some glasses and voilà. If it isn't just standard age-related farsightedness, you should probably look into other potential causes—like eye pressure or something else, as nimblebison17 suggested. Did you actually bring this up with the doctor who examined you?

I think you might have misread that bit!
If a +3 prescription means someone is only seeing about 30% clearly, what on earth are people with a 15+ prescription actually looking at? 😬
