Dealing with hypo- and hyperpigmentation

Some white spots popped up on my neck, right below my ear, with some darker patches surrounding them. It just looks like my skin is dirty or stained...
The dermatologist—if you can even call him that, he seemed totally indifferent—told me it's just hypo and hyperpigmentation. He claimed there’s nothing to be done, except maybe it could spread.
Has anyone else dealt with this? Is it true that there's really nothing we can do about it?????

I have it too, UNFORTUNATELY. I actually went in for an exam today and was diagnosed with the exact same hypopigmentation. I have patches on my shin and my elbow. The doctor told me it's permanent and just handed me some lotion... As soon as I heard there was no way to fix it, I started crying like a child. Honestly, I'm still crying right now.......😢 😢

isuse, gentlehound9, for heaven's sake, why on earth are you crying about this? Just go back and actually read through some of the other health threads for once.
