I really need some advice here. My period started on November 9th right when I expected it, so I didn't think twice about it at first. But since it just wouldn't quit even by Friday, I finally went to see my doctor—which was weird because my cycles are usually super short and never this heavy. She prescribed some vaginal suppositories, though she didn't actually do an exam, which makes sense given I'm bleeding and all. Anyway, she told me to start using them regardless of the bleeding and suggested I take a pregnancy test just to make sure nothing "passed" prematurely and caused an infection. So, I immediately grabbed a test—since we’ve been trying to conceive for almost a year now—and it came back positive. But honestly? I decided I wasn't going to touch those suppositories until the bleeding actually stops, so I'm planning to retest soon to see what's really going on. The bleeding isn't massive, but it's definitely not nothing; I'm going through about two maxi pads a day. Has anyone else dealt with something like this?? What should I even do??? 😢

So, looks like you had bleeding for seven days, maybe even nine? What happened after November 18th?

What kind of suppositories? For what?

Wait, what?

congratulate! 🙂
But look, even with a positive test, if you've been bleeding for seven days or more, there's a real chance you might lose the pregnancy. You really should get a quantitative beta HCG blood test, and then do it again in a few days to see if the levels are rising—which would mean the pregnancy is holding steady—or dropping, which would mean it's not. At this early stage, there's nothing anyone can do to stop a miscarriage. Maybe just bed rest or treating whatever else is going on, like diabetes, infections, or dehydration...

Ashley Perez33 said:but I decided to hold off on the tampons until this bleeding stops, so I'm gonna retake the test to see where things stand. (It’s not heavy, but it's definitely not nothing—maybe two small pads a day... Anyone else dealt with this?? What should I even do??? 😢

You probably got those metronidazole suppositories for bacterial vaginosis. BV is basically just when the bacteria in your system get out of whack, which can lead to discharge or even preterm labor. It's usually an easy fix, though.

Since we're all just guessing here, you should really just check back in with your doctor.

🙂 Hey, thanks for getting back to me. So, it’s the 22nd today and I’m still bleeding—it's slowed down a bit, sure, but it hasn't exactly stopped. I'm stuck at work right now so I can't actually check the label on those vaginal suppositories, something starting with a B... they're supposed to help with inflammation, infections, or yeast issues. My mom called me last night and insisted I start using them, but honestly, I was just too exhausted and over it to deal with all that right now, especially since I've never even used anything like that before. Anyway, I'll give them a shot tonight; maybe they'll finally help stop this bleeding. At this point, I really need to just face reality and accept that there's no pregnancy here. This bleeding has been dragging on way too long, and even if it isn't a total flood, it's definitely not nothing either—I'm still having to wear a pad all day.

At this early stage, there’s honestly no way to stop a miscarriage. Maybe staying off your feet or treating whatever else is going on might help—like managing diabetes, dealing with an infection, or getting hydrated.

I'm with them on this one.

It is totally possible that this bleeding is just something that happens in early pregnancy, so you really need to confirm whether you're actually pregnant or not. And don't bother with home tests—go get a beta HCG blood test at a lab (you can hit up a private lab like Quest Diagnostics and usually get results back in a few hours), then repeat it two days later to see if those levels are rising or falling properly, exactly like bluedriver2 mentioned. Honestly, I think by this point you should probably be getting an ultrasound too, just to see if there's anything there.
Anyway, if you *are* pregnant, you'll likely need to take it easy because of the bleeding and maybe start some extra progesterone (that hormone that helps sustain the pregnancy; things like Prometrium) to try and keep everything stable.
But if you aren't pregnant... well, if the bleeding doesn't let up in a day or two, you seriously need to see a doctor to figure out why you're bleeding so much. Could be a cyst, a hormonal imbalance, who knows!
Seriously, just go find a reliable OB-GYN ASAP!!! Please!

And about those vaginal suppositories... hmm, I'm not entirely sure what we're talking about here, but I definitely wouldn't be using them without talking to a doctor first.
Good luck!

Look, you need to get to an OB-GYN right now—specifically an emergency room at a hospital. Bleeding like this isn't normal, it’s not okay, and you need to get it stopped immediately because there are a million different things that could be causing it. If you’re pregnant and dealing with something like a subchorionic hematoma, that bleeding can actually wash away the pregnancy. On the other hand, if you’ve already miscarried, you need to undergo a D&C right away to clear out any remaining tissue before you end up with sepsis.
It honestly blows my mind that you were handed vaginal suppositories without getting a thorough exam first; that’s just appalling. And frankly, the fact that you've been suffering through this for 22 days is absolutely staggering.😲

Angela Wright;
I honestly can't wrap my head around how you ended up with a yeast infection when your gynecologist didn't even give you a proper exam—that's just shocking said:

Seriously, I have no clue why she skipped over the actual exam, but for the record, my period started on November 9th, so it hasn't actually been 22 days... it’s more like 14 days now. Anyway, thanks for the input; I'm definitely not touching any of these treatments until I can actually get myself in front of a doctor. Thanks again for the help.

Which progesterone supplements were you prescribed?
If they put you on something like S কথাProgesterone, then you really need to stay on top of those doses... they're vital for supporting the pregnancy and they won't hurt the baby at all.
Now, spotting during pregnancy doesn't always signal a major crisis, though it can lead to a miscarriage depending on what's actually causing the bleeding.
So, if your doctor gave you a prescription for progesterone, definitely take it, and make sure you follow up with another ultrasound just to figure out exactly why the bleeding is happening.
Wishing you the best of luck...

I just saw that you didn't end up getting the Utrogestan.
Honestly, looking back at what I mentioned before, that might have been exactly what you needed to be prescribed...
You should really head straight to your OB-GYN so they can get you in for an ultrasound right away, because once they see what's actually going on, you'll have much better answers.

And about those vaginal suppositories... honestly, I have no idea what they're specifically for, but I wouldn't even touch them without getting a second opinion from a doctor first.
Good luck!

Thanks for the reply, but honestly, someone told me that in such an early stage, hormones won't even make a difference in saving a pregnancy, and usually, you don't even need a surgical procedure since it's basically just an early miscarriage where everything clears itself out naturally. Still, I am definitely going to look into this today and go get a second opinion from another doctor. I even reached out to CVS, and they suggested I just wait a bit and retake a test, but at this point, waiting feels way too risky. Thanks, girl, for all the info.

Maybe you actually needed those specific ones because of everything I mentioned earlier.
Get yourself to an OBGYN right now who can actually run an ultrasound, then you'll have some real answers.

Look, they didn't even bother checking me out properly, so I'm definitely finding a different doctor. Now I'm just sitting here kicking myself for not doing this sooner—is it already too late? Thanks, though, I'm heading to see someone else today.

A clinical exam probably won't turn up much, besides maybe some blood in the cervical canal. What you really need to get done is a quantitative beta HCG test and potentially an ultrasound. They aren't wrong, either—even if you're right in the middle of a miscarriage, there isn't much else they can do... maybe just rest.

I just wanted to jump back in here and say a huge thank you to everyone for all the advice and input. I actually went out and did another test, and yep—positive again. I ended up seeing a private doctor because I wasn't getting anywhere, and even though they couldn't see much on the ultrasound, the blood work confirmed I was pregnant. But then things took a turn... I switched up my primary care physician, and after sending me for more labs, it turns out my hCG levels have dropped significantly, which basically means the pregnancy didn't make it. It’s devastating, honestly. We haven't had any news about a future baby yet, but we're holding onto hope that it won't be too long before we try again. Seriously, thanks again for being there for me through this.

Man, I feel for you...
About ten years ago, I went through a total false pregnancy scare. My period was about two weeks late, I had some mild nausea, and the test came back positive. Then the bleeding started, so I rushed straight to the doctor. The pains were actually pretty intense for a day, and then everything just stopped after a week.
I ended up at Mayo Clinic where they basically told me I wasn't pregnant at all. 😕
For the next two years, nothing happened. I couldn't get pregnant again, and honestly, I was starting to accept that it just wasn't meant to be. Seeing pregnant women or little kids out and about would just break my heart every single time...

But then, out of nowhere, my period was late again! I grabbed a test and—boom—positive. I didn't even run to the doctor right away because I was terrified it was just another false alarm.
A month later, the doctor finally confirmed it was the real deal. I was literally jumping up and down yelling "Yes! Yes!" while he showed me the ultrasound.
Fast forward, and I gave birth to a healthy baby boy. While I was still breastfeeding him, I actually got pregnant again. 😁
And guess what? Another boy! 😁
As I'm typing this, they're being absolute little terrors in the next room...

Hang in there. I really hope you start building your own loud, crazy little family super soon!!
