Driver issues

I started a thread about this a while back. Someone tried to help me out, but we didn't quite nail it. Once I got Windows XP up and running, I had to deal with the drivers. Some software couldn't find them online, so some guy jumped on Zoom to fix it for me. Now, though, I've hit a wall. No matter which PDF reader I try to download, the download just hangs before finishing. It's not just PDFs either—half the programs I try to grab won't complete. Can someone take a look and get this sorted?

Could you walk me through what's happening? Are you getting some kind of error message when you try to uninstall the program, or is it doing something else entirely?

Which browser are you running? How’s the memory usage looking on your end?

Sometimes it throws an error, other times it just strips part of the file and calls it a day.



I tried following some tutorials to manually tweak my drivers. I figured out which ones are broken, but I have no clue how to actually fix them myself.

That’s not memory, that's just free disk space. You're probably getting screwed because those 20GB are likely heavily fragmented. On top of that, you've got temp and scratch files eating up room, so you end up running out of space mid-download, and the files only download as far as the disk allows. And every time you try again, you have even less room left...

Empty your Recycle Bin, delete everything you don't need, run a chkdsk, and defrag the drive...

So, I managed to grab the one PDF reader I actually need, but this other software is being a total pain. It keeps throwing an error at me...

I figured I’d just drop a quick question here instead of cluttering up the boards with a whole new thread. So, I just finished installing Windows 7, and then I ran DriverPack Solution from a USB stick to get everything sorted. For the most part, things seem totally fine and the PC is running smooth, but there are these two weird glitches driving me nuts. First off, whenever I’m browsing the web and scrolling through text, these random lines start flickering right in the middle of the screen. Then, there’s the taskbar—for some reason, the icons and the clock at the bottom aren't showing up properly; they're basically cut off. I’ll attach a screenshot at the end so you guys can see what I mean. I asked a buddy of mine about it, and he’s convinced it’s a driver issue. I actually tried using the AMD auto-detect tool, and it keeps telling me that I’ve already got the latest driver installed. Everything else is working perfectly, but these two little hiccups are stuck. Does anyone know which specific driver I should be hunting for? Here’s the pic...

Looks like some uncalibrated geometry on a CRT monitor. Or maybe just a messed up refresh rate. If you're actually rocking a CRT, there should be physical adjustment knobs on the unit itself if it’s a decent model.

Otherwise, you ought to be able to tweak the display parameters in Catalyst. By the way, did Catalyst even detect the display correctly? What does it say in the info tab?

I really hope you installed CCC (Catalyst Control Center)...

So, I've got my PC hooked up to an LG 671V monitor—it's about a 42-inch screen—running at a standard 1080p resolution. But here's the kicker: it feels like that CCC driver isn't actually installed or something. I've been spiraling down a rabbit hole since this morning, scouring the web and searching everywhere, but I am completely lost on where the heck I'm supposed to go to actually download it.😵

Grab your TV remote and hit Q.MENU. Under the Aspect Ratio settings, you can toggle between Just scan i original and the other option...

Haha, I had the exact same thing pop up on my screen when I tried to launch that app. :D
