Need fresh ideas for a popular science magazine

I'm looking for some fresh inspiration here—basically, I need a brainstorm session for potential topics for a pop-science medical magazine.
Who should I be interviewing? What kind of deep dives should I tackle? Maybe reaching out to organizations like the CDC or SAMHSA for pieces on anti-smoking campaigns, the opioid crisis, drug addiction, or whatever else is hitting the headlines lately... I want stuff that actually feels new, you know? Not just the same old recycled junk...

Here are a few questions I’ve been dying to ask the American Cancer Society. I’ve tried reaching out via email several times, but my messages just keep bouncing back to me.
Why didn't they get involved in establishing a stem cell bank much earlier, before Anne Hathaway stepped up?
And why is it that when a patient receives a cancer diagnosis, they aren't handed at least a basic brochure explaining their specific condition, where to find psychological support, dietary advice, or tips on how to explain everything to their kids and family?
Specifically, what kind of concrete actions are those donations and funds actually being spent on?
