So, I took a break from birth control for about three or four months and only had two periods in that time... my last one was over a month late, and honestly, it probably wasn't even a real period to begin with...

Something strange is happening...

A few days ago, I noticed some spotting on my underwear... just brownish-red drops... and it lasted all day (usually my first day is light like this, so it's not an unusual amount)...

I thought, "Oh good, my period is finally here, now I can get back on my Yasmin"...
I took a pill in the evening... the next day, nothing changed, just those tiny drops on the pad... barely anything at all... so I took a second pill... yesterday was more of the same, then by nighttime, nothing at all... there's no blood when I pee, but there are "drops" when I wipe... and I've already taken a third pill...

Now I’m completely lost... if this isn't my period, which it clearly isn't, then where is this blood coming from? And if it's not my period, what am I doing to my body by starting the Yasmin pills again?...

I'm terrified that I might be pregnant... people say you can still have light bleeding during pregnancy, but I took a test two weeks ago and it was negative... what if the test was wrong?? I feel like I'm losing my mind... just totally confused...

Any advice?...

Well, then why on earth don't you just go see a gynecologist?

Things are a bit tight financially right now... and since my relationship with my mother isn't exactly great, I'm not exactly looking to ask her for a loan... plus, my daughter-in-law is self-employed, so everything comes with a price tag. I was planning on heading out on October 1st when some funds finally clear, but until then, well... so I'm wondering if anyone here knows anything about this...

Honestly, it could be anything. For what it's worth, I never ran into these issues; I was on the pill for a long time—first using Tranquilizer and then switching to Yasmin—and everything was perfectly fine.

You really ought to see a doctor. If you're short on cash, just ask your mother for help; your health should always come first, shouldn't it? 🙂

I've heard it's actually pretty common for your cycle to get all wonky during the break after taking the Yasmin pill, mostly because the hormone dosage in Yasmin is on the lower side...

But I'm struggling to see the point of those drops, and now I'm honestly second-guessing whether I should just push through with the Yasmin or stop entirely and wait to see if a real period even shows up...🙂

And am I even protected from pregnancy if I started the pills but haven't had a period yet? This whole situation is becoming quite a headache...

And what on earth possessed you to take a break in the first place?

I mean, why on earth would I have stayed on them for three years straight without a break... even the gynecologists insist that you need a pause now and then...

Taking a break from the Yasmin pill is entirely unnecessary, particularly when you are using it to manage specific medical issues; if you do decide to stop, you ought to maintain that pause until your system has completely stabilized, which typically requires at least four months.
Furthermore, I would suggest finding yourself a gynecologist who won't charge you an arm and a leg, because then you wouldn't be facing these kinds of complications—that is truly the only advice I can offer. You can go ahead and ask anyone else for money, but please just see a doctor, as we simply aren't equipped to help you with this kind of thing.
If I were in your shoes, I would cease taking the pills immediately and wait to restart only after I had undergone comprehensive testing and ensured my cycle had fully regulated. One shouldn't play games with their health like this, so please, consult with a gynecologist before attempting any future breaks.
Best of luck!

I take them strictly for birth control... honestly, my local neighborhood doctor is a total joke. It’s common knowledge how incompetent he is; I mean, the guy actually wrote me a prescription for the Yasmin pill without even running basic tests or sending me for bloodwork... so I went to see a specialist at a top-tier clinic instead. They did all the necessary screenings first, and only after everything cleared was I actually comfortable starting the pills...

I took a four-month break from them, but now I have no idea what’s going on with my body... I'm really not sure if it's wise to just stop taking them abruptly right now. Regardless, I have to wait until Monday to call my OB-GYN if I can't figure this out myself... but I guess I'm just wondering if anyone else has dealt with this, and what exactly is happening to me...

I just wanted to chime in and confirm that you don't actually need to take breaks from them... I've been on Logest continuously for over three years now, and my doctor explicitly told me there’s no reason to cycle off. It’s the same story with Yasmin...
But look, since you've already gone ahead and stopped, hopefully things will settle down for you soon. Honestly, I don't personally know anyone who ran into such a specific issue, though I suppose it isn't entirely surprising—things tend to get pretty chaotic when you suddenly stop taking them. At any rate, you should probably give your gynecologist a call just to get their professional take on it...

My biggest dilemma right now is whether I should just keep going since I've already started, regardless of how things look... and if I can be absolutely certain there won't be any unexpected little surprises along the way.😬

Nicole Gray47 said:My greatest concern right now is whether I should even bother continuing this path, seeing as I’ve already crossed the starting line regardless of how messy things have become. And more importantly, can I ever be absolutely certain that I won't end up facing the reality of an unplanned pregnancy?😬

So, what then? Are you actually considering buying another test? Is that really where we're headed? 😕

I decided to take a break from the Yasmin pill after being on it consistently for two or three years. It’s been about seven months since my last dose, and honestly, everything has finally stabilized. In the beginning, the cramps were so excruciatingly intense that I genuinely thought I was going to pass out. But now? Everything is fine. My cycle has even returned to being remarkably regular—give or take a day. 🙂

I have to admit, I’m actually feeling significantly better now that I’ve ditched the pills. Honestly, I have zero intention of ever picking them up again because it turns out they weren't nearly as "essential" as I once believed. Even my period—the cramping, the endless duration, the heavy bleeding—isn't nearly as brutal as it used to be. Is it possible we just get used to being miserable? Perhaps. But I certainly feel more like myself without them. 🙂

I haven't been particularly active lately, so I have my doubts... plus, he hasn't even finished inside me once... it feels a bit ridiculous to go out and grab another test, though knowing how impulsive I can be, I'll probably end up doing it anyway

I definitely feel better on the pill... mostly for health reasons... no acne, no painful periods, no weight gain... and no babies😬

The only real downside is the drop in libido... it just tanks quite a bit

For me, my sex drive basically vanished while I was on the Yasmin pill. 😕
Thankfully, that problem is finally behind me now. 😬

Same here... though I suppose if things get desperate, I might just have to force myself through it for the sake of it...

Hey everyone! I’ve got a bit of a situation here. My period started on October 4th and I kicked off my Yasmin pills right then. But after just a few days, the bleeding wouldn't stop, even though my cycle usually lasts about 7 or 8 days. Once ten days had passed—I figured it was just my body adjusting since it's my first time on Yasmin—it started bleeding again. Now it’s October 22nd, the bleeding is heavy, and my stomach is killing me... I honestly don't know what to do. Is this normal? I can't get to my OBGYN right now because I'm out of town, and I won't be back home for another week or so... I'm starting to freak out a little. Oh, and I actually stopped taking them three days ago because I figured they were the culprit... but the bleeding actually got heavier after that. Help me out please!

What you experienced was breakthrough bleeding, which is totally normal during the first few months on oral contraceptives while your body adjusts to the hormones in the Yasmin pill. Since you quit taking them, you've triggered a withdrawal bleed (you'll get one as soon as you stop mid-cycle), which is your classic period, and that’s why you're feeling those cramps. Just let this current period run its course through your usual duration, but if the bleeding doesn't taper off or slow down within 2-3 days, go see a doctor. Once this period is over, wait for your next natural cycle to finish, then restart the Yasmin pill on the very first day of that cycle. You either need to have more patience with the breakthrough bleeding or sit down with your doctor to discuss switching to a different type of contraception.
