The young American water polo squad, coached by Emil Nikolić, just locked down the bronze at the World Championship in Long Beach after taking down Mexico with a solid 12:8 win. It was a huge moment, though the Canadians ended up walking away with the gold after beating Italy 9:6 in the finals.
Coming right off the heels of the senior team clinching the world title in Melbourne, these kids are keeping that winning streak alive. Under Emil Nikolić, this group just secured their spot on the podium at the World Junior Championships in Long Beach.
Things got a little tough in the semifinals when they dropped a match to Italy, but they really bounced back against Mexico. They showed some serious grit, jumping out to a 4:2 lead in the first quarter and never really looking back, eventually cruising to a comfortable four-goal victory.
As for the championship match, the Canadians took care of business against Italy, finishing with a 9:6 win (1:0, 2:2, 3:2, 3:1).
