Anthony Hayes82 said:He's claiming they're all 80mm. Honestly, I might have to swing by his place once he picks up his parts because he isn't going to know how to put this thing together. My main worry right now is that the CC 120 liquid cooler probably won't fit in that case, so he might end up having to grab the LC 90 instead.

If that massive Arctic Cooling A30 beast fits, then the Corsair H60 will fit just fine.

Then it stops (height is key)

That’s really what I’m getting at—I can't find any case dimensions listed anywhere online, so I was thinking about swinging by his place to measure it myself just to be sure. Honestly, I think he’d be much better off just grabbing a brand-new case, but hey, you can lead a horse to water, but you can't make it drink. At the end of the day, the components are perfectly fine, and I actually suggested that to him first, but apparently, he needs a hundred different people to tell him the exact same thing before he'll finally make a decision.

I double-checked the measurements, and that Corsair H60 is definitely going to fit in the case. But the guy is being pretty picky—he’s insisting on using RAM clocked at 2100MHz. I had to break it to him that his Gigabyte GA-970 DS3P won't actually support those speeds. To give him some options, I threw an ASRock 990FX Extreme3 into the quote as well. Now it's on him to decide which way he wants to go by tomorrow.

RAM speed is completely irrelevant in this context.

Plus, you couldn't find a more pathetic motherboard for $120 😬

This is a beast of a board for overclocking, or that new Gigabyte

I told him the same thing about the RAM. Fine, I'll let him know those two options are even better if he's really serious about it.

EDIT:
Man, I'm calling it quits. This guy is making zero sense. He wants to hit 2133MHz straight out of the box without any overclocking, which just isn't how it works.
Whatever. Closing this thread.

He should just go walk into Best Buy, drop a grand, and grab some Skylake. At least those run at 2GHz stock... let him play with those instead.

Man, he’s acting like Intel is total garbage and calling this stuff junk. We were actually talking about how ridiculous his logic is over at the original TS forums. He’d honestly rather go with an A8-7600 over an FX-8300 just because it supports 2133MHz RAM... I don't know what to tell you. I have to put up with him until he finally pulls the trigger on a purchase, and frankly, I don't care how he spends his money. If he wants to buy trash, that's on him, as long as he doesn't come crying to me later. Personally, if you pair an FX-8300 with a Gigabyte GA-970 DS3P and some 1866MHz RAM, you really can't go wrong.

Is your buddy maybe Božo Petrov 😁? He seems incredibly indecisive.

Your friend is being a total clown, but what can you do? Just send him that Linus Tech Tips video about high-speed RAM and let him deal with the consequences. Honestly, that ASUS motherboard is absolute garbage compared to what he could actually get for that kind of money.

Nah, but his last name is basically synonymous with being an indecisive former president. 😁

I think he's arguing that the A8-7600, which is half the price of the FX-8300, is actually better. His logic is that since the FX-8300 is an 8-core chip, it's more expensive just for that reason, even though it's only a 4-core vs 4-core difference in terms of frequency. And what about the L1, L2, and L3 cache? The FX-8300 has double the cache capacity there too. I just don't get where he's coming from. 😵

Maybe I'll send him that Linus Tech Tips comparison video and see how he reacts.

The best he'll probably end up with is an Asus 99x and an fx8300 with 1800 sticks... definitely enough for him, since he couldn't handle anything better anyway ☕

Let him blow his cash how he wants. 🤦
