How to rip a DVD to my computer

Burned some radio stuff onto a DVD, but my PC won't even acknowledge the disc exists. It’s just sitting there being useless. Plus, I actually wanted to play this in my car...😕 What's the deal? Anyone got a clue?

So I burned this radio show onto a DVD recorder. Now I'm just sitting here listening to it through the TV. But when I pop that same disc into my PC? Nothing. It won't even recognize it, let alone play the audio. Get what I'm saying?

I get what you're saying. What kind of audio format does that DVD recorder actually use when it's recording?

Not sure when I won't be able to just pull a DVD off my PC. And how am I even supposed to figure out what file format I'm looking at?

Just do a quick search online or check the manual for whatever DVD recorder you used to burn the disc to see exactly what format it was saved in.

The manual says this Sony DVD Player can burn MP3/WMA tracks onto CDs and DVDs—but what kind of format are we actually talking about? How is it even supposed to record them when my PC won't recognize the files in the first place?

Just finish the DVD on the recorder.

It might also come down to how old the hardware is—specifically the firmware version on your PC's drive.

I’ve got an old DVD drive and a newer DVD burner in my setup.
When I pop in a disc burned on a standalone recorder, the old drive won't even register that there's a disc in there, whereas the newer burner handles it just fine.

Maybe try using someone else's newer machine and just copy the files over.

Yeah, and I also need to turn a recording in MP4 format into an MP3. Is that even doable?
