Well, thanks a million—you really gave me a good laugh there! XD

Look, the truth is you're just generalizing and honestly, you haven't got a clue what you're talking about. Just because you PERSONALLY don't dig something doesn't mean it isn't music. I'm not even into techno or electronic stuff myself, but I'm not out here acting like it's not actual music. It's obvious, right? People listen to it, they love it, they vibe to it. Same goes for country music—people enjoy it. I really don't believe it's all just some excuse for getting trashed and dancing to twangy tunes 👍

HOLD UP!

Listen, this isn't going to turn into yet another endless debate about whether certain bands actually count as "real" music or whatever niche genre they fall into, alright?

What really kills me about this whole thread is the sheer amount of hipster posturing happening here. 🙂 I mean, think about it: if someone spends years posting on a music subforum, if they spend their entire life digging through crates, hunting down obscure indie acts, obsessing over genres, and even putting in the actual sweat equity to play in a band, you’d logically assume that music actually means something to them—you know, like it's a core part of their soul. You'd think they'd be able to actually talk about it without feeling like they're being too earnest or something. But nope, instead, this whole discussion has devolved into—well, at least looking back at the older posts—this weird, quasi-auto-ironic way of acting like they don't care. 🙂 Real classy.

Bradley Collins46 said:So, I suppose I could just grab some household appliances, use them to generate a few noises, and then wrap some nonsensical lyrics around it—and voilà, I’ve somehow produced a song.

That would be roughly how it might look. 😁 ...but to get back to the actual topic: music—having it playing in the background, listening intently, actually playing an instrument, going to shows—that will always be my true passion. I really only put on headphones when I absolutely "have" to, and even then, I tend to associate the whole thing with being stuck in high school or maybe some tedious college orientation days.

Bradley Collins46 said:So basically, I can just grab some kitchen appliances, use them to make some noise, throw together some mindless lyrics, and boom—I've got a song.

Exactly. Doesn't matter how you do it, as long as it sounds good—that's what I'm listening to.

What does music even mean to me!? It definitely makes it easier to enjoy a drink while listening.😬

Lately, I’ve been hitting a total wall with music—I just don't have anything good to listen to anymore, so I barely even bother. Honestly, I can go entire days without putting on a single track now, which is wild because I used to be that person who literally couldn't function without a constant soundtrack playing in my ears.🤷

Jason Richardson5 said:Seriously, when people whine about having nothing to listen to, 🤣 just get on the 👍 web and do some digging.

Ugh, please, just don't even start with me.
You have zero clue what I actually listen to, and you definitely haven't seen me scouring the internet for new tracks.

But let's be real, you definitely haven't listened to half the stuff I've said if you think you know me, 🤣

First off, you just commented on me, and second, you clearly have zero clue what I actually listen to.

Music just isn't what it used to be, man. I’ve been diving deep into R&B, techno, and house lately, but honestly? It feels empty. In the R&B scene specifically, it feels like there isn't a single vocalist worth their salt—male or female—who actually has some soul. Everything feels so manufactured and over-commercialized now. Think about someone like Rihanna; it’s all just radio-friendly polish with zero substance. At this point, music just doesn't really move me like it used to.

Not bad, not bad at all—there’s even some fire in there.
Ashley Carter42 said:...for instance, I listen to R&B, techno, house... and with R&B, there isn't a single vocalist worth mentioning (male or female), nor a song that hasn't been completely commercialized (I mean Rihanna, etc.). So, music doesn't really mean much to me right now.

Well, why not just pivot to a different genre? If you're feeling up to it, I suppose.😉

Amanda Roberts13 said:I started this thread because I know plenty of people who feel the exact same way about music—they see it as a drug, something that triggers deep emotions, or even a kind of medicine. Honestly, I’m right there with them. Some people even go as far as calling it a modern religion. 😕

When I'm not listening to anything, I get incredibly irritable. Seriously, no matter where I am, I HAVE to have my headphones in just to stay sane; music is what keeps me level.
And of course, I have to charge my phone every single night just to keep it going. 😂

I remember this one time I was driving back from the Western Union office and my headphones were acting up. It was only about a 15-minute drive, but when I tried to turn my playlist on and nothing happened... I lost it. 😠 I got so worked up that I actually started crying. My friend was just staring at me like I was losing my mind—she obviously doesn't "get" it. I stayed on edge for the rest of the evening and could barely fall asleep later that night. 😢

Don't give me any nonsense, please. I genuinely want to know if there are others out there like me, or if I'm actually crazy and need to go see a therapist. 😂 😢

I'm with you on this. 🙂
P.S. Sounds like you might already have a therapist on speed dial, haha. 😍😍

My absolute favorite way to unwind and a career path that—honestly—usually misses the mark😢

And there you have it—that’s exactly what I mean.
