Getting a filling: what to expect?

I know there’s probably already a thread with this exact topic floating around somewhere, but I just couldn't be bothered to hunt it down...
I have a huge favor to ask! Could you all please help me out?
Like almost everyone else—and maybe even one of the few people on earth who actually hates the dentist—I’m having a rough day. I was just snacking on some chocolate candies (which I’ll definitely be regretting later) when my filling suddenly popped right out.
Could any kind souls out there recommend a great private dentist in the Chicago area? Also, has anyone else dealt with a filling falling out? Do I need to get a full dental reconstruction, and does it hurt? Please let me know!🙂

It really depends on whether the tooth under the filling is actually fine or not—though you’ll definitely need them to clean it out first. Personally, I didn't feel a thing when they buffed it down to prep for the new one. And look, you can always ask for local anesthesia. I don't know the exact price these days, but it shouldn't break the bank. Plus, if you're stuck with one of those old grey amalgam fillings, you can finally swap it out for a nice white composite. If you go through your insurance provider, it won't cost much; I went to $27 just a few days ago.
Just be brave and get it done. If I can handle it without any numbing—and trust me, I am a total wimp—then you can too.
