Hey there! πŸ™‚

I was wonderingβ€”is it actually possible to get pregnant after having surgery to remove uterine fibroids?
Has anyone here gone through something similar?
Also, can you even conceive if you still have fibroids?
I had my surgery done already, but I've been trying to conceive for about 10 months now with no luck.πŸ™„

Sending love from Washington, D.C.!πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚

I can't speak for what life is like after surgery, but I do know you can absolutely live with a fibroidβ€”even if it's sitting on the inner wall of the uterus and measuring 12cm.

While they were performing the procedure during the initial exam, did they happen to check if your ovaries are "free" and not fused together? That’s standard practiceβ€”they usually just take a look while they're in there, and if everything looks clear, there shouldn't be any reason why you couldn't conceive.

Generally speaking, when you still have them, the chances of struggling with fertility are much lower...

My doctors explained that the main issue when trying to conceive is usually fibroids located inside the uterus, rather than what are called external or subserosal fibroids. It is also important to note that there is an increased risk of miscarriage later in pregnancy when dealing with fibroids. With subserosal fibroids, the biggest challenge is typically during the first three months before the uterus rises out of the pelvic cavity. Until then, their size can cause complications (which was my specific situation).

Thanks everyone for all the input!!!πŸ™‚

northernhawk87, after the surgery, they told me everything else looks fineβ€”but it might be a little tougher to get pregnant down the road.

Megan Brooks19, my fibroid was intramural, which I think means it was right inside the uterine wall. Probably way more complicated than the ones on the outside, just like you said.

Best,😘 😘

An intramural fibroid is one situated right within the uterine muscle itself. This means it is integrated into the muscle tissue rather than protruding into the uterine cavity, so it won't interfere with a baby. A fibroid like that shouldn't cause any issues with conception; instead, it might eventually present challenges during labor due to contraction coordination. I personally have three intramural fibroids and one subserosal one, and conceiving was absolutely no problem at all. Just try to relax and not stress yourself out. Wishing you the best of luck!

Megan Brooks19,
Your reply honestly made my day. I was wonderingβ€”how big were those intramural fibroids of yours before you got pregnant, and how long did it take to actually conceive? My doctors have been totally stressing me out about mine, so I’m having a hard time just chilling out and relaxing.
Best!

Your response truly brightened my day! I am curious about how large your intramural fibroids were before you became pregnant, and how long it took for you to conceive? My doctors have been incredibly alarmist about my situation, so I just can't seem to relax.
Best regards!
