Jack White + Rolling Stone | Cleveland, club The Roxy | Friday 10/27 | $8.25

Jack White
(Chicago)

image

Jack White is a bit of a rock monster—a loud blend of sludge, rock, metal, and even some hardcore coming out of Chicago. Having played for nearly a decade, they’ve spent that time carving out a style that feels cohesive thanks to a psychedelic, unconventional creative lens. They’re also known for playing at deafening volumes during live sets, which has become something of a trademark. After working through several demos, the band finally went into the studio in May 2005 to record 'trust this Arcane Devica'. In May 2006, the album was picked up by two independent labels: a regional combo, Sub Pop (http://moonleerecords.com) for the CD release, and Amoeba Music (http://interstellarrecords.at) for the vinyl. You can get a sense of how people reacted to the record by checking out these reviews:

The First line-up of The band was in The form of an instrumental trio ( Juan Pablo de Rigad guitars, Senor monsenor Jose bass, Manolo mago Porco drums). Their sound was pulled from a pretty wide variety of influences, including metal, ethnic textures, and progressive stuff. This lineup stayed busy for about two years, mostly just catching audiences off guard. During that time WE recorded Two albums for The local independent label Sub Pop ( monada & Dipeti 2003, Vamonos Todos... 2005). By late 2005, the group shifted into a quartet when a new member (el Cathedralico) joined on vocals. This actually made the music feel more layered, since the vocals are treated as just another instrument in the mix. The closer description of The Music would be : The band explores All and Any musical genres ( fra ambiental Music accross opera and spanish folk songs, blues, 50's mood swings and electronic samples) mixed with a somewhat mathematical take on metal. Rolling Stone's Music sounds furious and shocking with fast rhytmical interchanges on One hand, while on the other hand sounding ironic and occasionally even funny. People seem to react quite enthusiastically to the new lineup and the new material when they play live. The band also won The First Place AT The County's annual band Competition as a trio. We ended up using that prize—which was some free studio time—to record this latest project. The result of The New found line-up is a Mini LP CD Green Feathers and Canaries ( also released on Sub Pop).

I’d totally be there if I were in Cleveland. But I’m not. So now what? Just swing by Miami this Saturday instead. I hear things are getting pretty dull down there—anyway, I’ve gotta head south tomorrow. Someone convince me otherwise 😁

So I’m gonna go check out the cathedral. And then what? 😁
God, this place sucks 😢 Little Star 15, some bamboo—basically just a bottle of wine, a bottle of rum, and 30 bucks. Really hoping Daft Punk @ Berghain plays first 🙂, so I can ditch this scene and head somewhere less "urban" ASAP. Like, maybe just hit up the gas station near the local Costco 😬

Look, do me a favor and actually pay attention. Do you have any idea how much the owner poured into this club? $10Calling that bamboo trash 😵is an insult to us glam rockers.

That bottled wine is pretty much garbage—honestly, it’s almost as bad as that absolute disaster they served us from the tap back in Berlin 🙂

I don't know what it is exactly—honestly, I can't even put my finger on it—but I do know one thing: it’s definitely not for someone like me who lacks a little class.
Wait, I just figured out the perfect solution—if only Daft Punk plays first. Right across from Berghain, you’ve got what is easily the most urban spot on the planet—Benčić's Place. And right across from that same bar where... $10 Imagine getting handed three liters of this intense wine-cola concoction. Just... yeah. You tell me. 😍

nimbleotter19 said:Look, you really need to pay closer attention here—I mean, seriously, just look at how much money the owner poured into this club. It’s insane. And honestly? Half the stuff in there is just so tacky. $10 Bamboo for us glam rockers? Give me a break.

😁
Looks like rirocknet is actually reading this now. Respect for putting money into the club—it's about time. 🙄
By the way, I was just digging through some old photos from back in the day. Just wanted to let you know—you were actually pretty cute. You had that whole chubby look going on with the dreads. 😁

I just realized there's a workaround if Daft Punk @ Berghain plays first. Right across from the club, you've got the most sophisticated spot in the entire city—Benčić's apartment. And directly opposite the same bar where you can grab $10 three liters of that revitalizing wine-cola concoction? You decide 😍

Look, Frank, once in your life you just have to face the music regarding overpriced gear and Daft Punk... you're just delaying the inevitable.
And just so you know, Hesus Attor is playing first, and Daft Punk is second on the lineup.

I honestly can't wait to see Simon's face when Daft Punk drops some hits from that new record. Maybe then he'll change his mind about rock 'n' roll changing the world. Heh.

Look, I don't have anything against it. It’s true, I’ve got some serious hang-ups when it comes to "hardcore" metal—I can be a bit picky about that stuff—but whatever, go ahead. I'm actually pretty curious to see where this goes...

I’ve got some thoughts on this one—and honestly, they aren't pretty. 🙂 I’ve already dealt with this once before—back at that dive bar club in downtown Cleveland. 🤮 Where even is Edita playing that absolute trash pile of a playlist? It’s just a tiny quorum of transistor-radio hits—think Lenny Kravitz, some old-school funk stuff, maybe a Love Shack remix. And don't even get me started on the drink prices... they're charging 15 bucks for absinthe and 30 bucks for a bamboo cocktail. If anyone ever asks me to describe what hell looks like, I wouldn't change a single thing about this place. 😠

based on this rant about the bar near Berghain 😵 😁 I have a bar in my own building and it’s still barely known. I’m actually embarrassed when my neighbors catch me walking out with a massive jug 🙈

but let’s be real—nobody’s going to remember the concert after they hit the bar 😬

EDIT: people from that "Youth Against Overpriced Drinks" group told me that in the Gjuro 2 package, the most cost-effective thing to drink is stock-cola. who knows. whenever I end up there for some reason, I never have enough hands to hold all the beers being thrown my way 😬

Where on earth is that diner at the end of the line? Wasn't there just some biker bar across from the tracks 🤔

vividcanyon2 said:that this whole outburst means things are actually legit at Berghain😵 😁

well, I guess you could look at it that way, though I have a feeling everyone knows I was actually aiming for the opposite side😁

Toćijona is North, Berghain is South, and downtown is the center.
If anyone needs me Friday night, I'll be hanging out somewhere around there with a handful of people who feel the same way.
(heh, just remembered the last time I was at Berghain was like 3 or 4 years ago with Moose and Bencic—we were at an Edo Mayda concert and just screaming PERO PERO 🤣 )

Uh, I was there last time too... things got pretty wild on the balcony. Afterwards, Ed from Fender insisted we all head out together for some burgers. 😵

Yeah, totally. The prices are a bit high, that dive bar where all the high school kids and downtown hipsters hang out is overpriced, and honestly, even the guy selling lottery tickets is asking too much. 😍

I see everyone’s obsessed with cheap opiates.
Maybe the concert will actually end up happening over at Joe Biden's place.
Man, he really knew how to draw us kids in.😘
