I used to stack Scitec protein delight.

Man, that stuff was solid for me.

I'd take it an hour before training and then hit it again right after with some glucose.

On my off days? Just tossed it in between meals.

$63 I went through 1500 g.

Do yourself a favor and look up the ratio online.

If I remember right, you’re getting about 35 g of protein per serving (that's two scoops).

Right now, I've switched over to Creapure creatine.

We'll see how that plays out.

I'm currently about eighty bucks short for another tub of whey, but once I get my hands on more, I'm definitely going with a 100% whey.

Honestly, though, Scitec products are pretty cheap.

Honestly, that’s just the typical script those supplement salesmen use. You don't need to be getting your carbs from powders—get them from veggies and grains instead (well, except for glucose in some formulas)! Just grab any decent brand of whey protein from the ones we've been discussing here... but look, just taking protein isn't going to do squat if you don't fix your diet first. You've gotta cut out the junk food and make sure you're eating massive amounts—at least five times a day—depending on how your body is built and your metabolism (whether you're an ectomorph, mesomorph, or endomorph).

Has anyone here actually tried the Twinlab Mass fuel before? I recently picked up a tub of it, and honestly, I would be incredibly grateful to hear your thoughts or any experiences you might have had with it. Also, if you wouldn't mind sharing, how many servings do you typically take? Thanks so much!

Look, you have to remember this is a mass gainer, not a standard whey protein; it’s loaded with way more carbs than actual protein. Honestly, once you finish what you just bought, you'd be better off grabbing a pure whey. This isn't really something you toss back right after a workout—it's more of a meal replacement.

As a general rule, you really only need whey for post-workout recovery, or maybe just to supplement meals that are running a bit low on protein—like stirring a scoop into your morning oatmeal and milk.

Generally speaking, I find that whey is mostly useful for your post-workout window, or perhaps just as a little boost in meals that are lacking protein—like when I stir a scoop into my morning oatmeal and milk.

Fair enough... so, which brands would you actually recommend if I'm looking to put on mass? I've been training for quite a while now and I'd like to think I've mastered the actual lifting part, but I have to admit, the whole world of protein supplements is completely foreign to me, and I feel a bit out of my depth here.😬

Which whey should you go with? You’ve got plenty of options to choose from, especially if you're living in a big hub like Washington, D.C. If you're looking for the absolute best bang for your buck, I'd say Scitec 100 % Whey is the way to go—specifically that massive 5kg tub, which usually runs around 550-$200. Now, if you're leaning more towards premium quality without completely draining your bank account, you might want to look at something like Dymatize elita Whey, maybe that 2.3 kg pack for about $133. As for the flavor, that's really up to you, though personally, I almost always find myself reaching for chocolate.

As for flavor, it’s really down to your preference, but I personally find myself reaching for chocolate most of the time.

I'm originally from Indianapolis, but honestly, there's a pretty solid selection right here in my neck of the woods too! Anyway... thanks 👍

If you're just starting out with supplements, stick to whey first. Don't even bother with anything else until then. For the best bang for your buck, grab the 2.3kg tub of Dymatize elita Whey $123 (that's not even my opinion, it's just consistently rated right behind optimum Nutrition 100 % Whey protein Gold on most US bodybuilding forums, which is still way too overpriced here). Scitec is just cheap filler. If you're actually trying to bulk up, you need slow-digesting proteins too—something like Labrada ProV60 is top tier—to take in the morning and at night, while you save the whey and glucose combo for right after your workout. Beyond that, I'd recommend creatine (get CEE, not the basic monohydrate). Obviously, none of this matters if your diet isn't dialed in.

David Baker3 said:Can someone drop some decent protein brands they've actually used, along with what they cost at a local pharmacy?

I've cycled through a ton of stuff, but if you want my take, Dymatize is the way to go, Weider is alright if you're desperate, and Optimum Nutrition is solid, but Pro Nutrition is top-tier.

Here’s the deal: the whole process of making and buying whey varies wildly between brands—basically, one batch is meant for livestock, while the other is actually made for humans.
That’s why I steer clear of brands like Scitec; their prices just don't match the quality they claim to have.
Let me break it down for you:

There's this one thing most people don't realize. Everyone knows whey is technically a byproduct, but...

Most of the dairy industry takes that byproduct and sells it after basic processing—like microfiltration and spray drying—which gives you a standard concentrate.
To turn that into an isolate, you have to go through ultrafiltration or ion exchange.
There are basically two lanes here: one is human-grade, high enough quality for infant formula, and the other is just animal feed grade.
On the global market, the price for processed whey concentrate intended for livestock is maybe $0.50 to $2.00 per kg, whereas the high-end stuff (because of all that extra purification) runs about $5.00 to $7.00 per kg.
If we were importing that whey into the States, you'd see one version priced at $1.00 to $4.00 per kg, and the premium version hitting $10.00 to $14.00 per kg. Of course, companies then toss in flavors, sweeteners, and sugars
to make it taste better or just to hide the fact that the quality is subpar. So, when someone tells me
they can find protein from certain brands for dirt cheap, I honestly have to ask: what kind of protein are you actually eating?

Seriously, if it's that cheap, you might as well just stick to feeding the cows.

So, I’ve finally pulled the trigger and decided to start picking up some proteins and supplements—mostly because my current diet is an absolute train wreck, and I'm actually trying to fix it this time—so now I am BEGGING all you experts, weekend warriors, and pros out there to weigh in and help me out.
The only real catch is that my liver is pretty much trashed right now, so my doctor told me I need to stick to proteins that have the least amount of "junk" in them, as she put it, and the highest protein concentration possible; basically, I need stuff that won't kick my liver while it's down. So, what are my best bets?
And also, what even is glucose? Like, is that something you just buy off a shelf or what? And what else should be on my list? Creatine? When am I supposed to be taking all this stuff—before a workout, after, or just mix it into my meals?
And btw, I really don't mind dropping a few extra bucks for the high-quality stuff, because honestly, I can't afford to mess around with my liver. I was thinking about going with TwinLab, so what do you guys think?

Get Dymatize elita Whey. It’s top-tier and won't wreck your liver. Since you have liver issues, stay away from creatine. It puts too much strain on the liver, which is why people take breaks from it anyway. Definitely skip the creatine.

Read this:

Regarding brands, just stick with Weider whey—don't even bother looking at those cheap manufacturers because they aren't even remotely close to the quality you get from Weider.

I really hope you're just talking about sponsors there, because honestly, Weider has been lagging quite a bit behind the competition in terms of product quality for a while now.

Dymatize elita Whey is hands down the best whey concentrate you can find here in the States. Sure, there are higher-end isolates and hydrolysates out there, but they come with a much steeper price tag. Aside from that, the only other real contender is optimum Nutrition 100 % Whey protein Gold (and since these two brands use different distributors, you can't go accusing me of being a shill ;p).

@jadetiger962/">@@jadetiger962 - just two quick corrections here:
-it’s not hydroisolate, it’s hydrolysate.
-Elite whey isn't just a concentrate; it’s actually a blend of various processing methods, ranging from ion exchange and peptides to standard concentrate.
There you go...

I’ve used it before.

Mixing it with water? Absolute garbage.

For about $77 you can grab a double pack of Dymatize elita Whey, and honestly, the stuff is top-tier.
That’s a gainer, man.
You could try it if you want, but I grabbed it once and I am never touching it again.
It turned my stomach inside out—I was running to the bathroom constantly.
I barely put on any weight during my bulk using that crap.

So, here’s the lineup. Take your pick:

Generally speaking, you’ll notice the quality climbs as you scroll down the page, but unfortunately, the price tag follows that exact same trajectory.
