Wait, which Yamamura film are we talking about specifically?

Oh thanks, Mr. Know-it-all, for pointing out the obvious. ๐Ÿ˜ Since you're such a genius, why don't you answer the real questionโ€”what the hell is a slideshow doing at an animation festival anyway?

I was there this past Thursday and Friday, and honestly, I have to admit that none of them really blew me away. If I had to pick anything from Thursday, Iโ€™d probably lean toward Rabbit, Unaccompanied Ladyโ€”which was just incredibly creepy yet sweet at the same timeโ€”and Herr Wurfel, who I found to be the most charming of the bunch.
On Friday, weโ€™ve got Ivan budalica, which is sweet enough, though I wouldn't call it anything groundbreaking, and then there's Christies-Oh, George, who seems to have the most actual potential; I'm honestly curious to see how the rest of that group pans out. It's a shame I can't make it today...๐Ÿ˜ข

OLD CROCODILE...๐Ÿ˜›

I actually attended the awards ceremony. I really liked the one that won the award for best debut film.
Zlatko Grgiฤ‡ nesanica... it probably would have been absolutely perfect if that cat hadn't turned into a woman.๐Ÿ‘

Did the awards catch you off guard? They definitely did for me. I didn't see Joanna Quinn snagging the Academy Award coming. And I still can't believe Marusic won somethingโ€”that was easily one of the worst films at the fest.

Anyone remember the name of that super annoying little film that wasn't even in the main competition, but they played it right before the winners started rolling? ๐Ÿ™‚

Oh, Old CROCODILE... I only managed to catch the final three minutes of that film, so I can't say I have the full picture just yet...

To be honest, the awards caught me quite off guard too. While I think Dreams and Desires is absolutely wonderful, if I were a betting woman, Iโ€™d say it actually had a much better shot at winning the Audience Award. But hey, I suppose ๐Ÿ˜ฌ

In my humble opinion, Leviathan and Marusic didn't quite earn their accolades this time around.
Actually, looking at the rest of the winners, even they don't seem particularly stellar to me... though I suppose I should be relieved that the Academy Award didn't go to one of those silent films. ๐Ÿ˜ˆ

Even Ivan budalica was anticipating a victory there. ๐Ÿ˜

Looking at the winners from last nightโ€”"Leviathan" is hands down the best one there. "Insomnia" was pretty solid too, even if it felt a bit thin on substance. As for the rest? Honestly, I mostly forgot them the second I walked out of the theater. And I wasn't even drinking.๐Ÿ˜•

...

That piece about Ivan budalica is decent, I guess, but nothing out of the ordinary. It seems like he picked up an award mostly because he was featured in the weakest program on the day when the crowds were at their peak...๐Ÿค”
The funniest part for me, though, is when Ivan stumbles upon that hole where the bear fell in, and the bear immediately knows his name...๐Ÿ˜‚ Itโ€™s kind of bizarre that I find that so funny...๐Ÿ˜›

To be honest, the stop-motion films were the biggest disappointment for me ๐Ÿ˜•. About 20 or 25 years ago (back when I was born), "Vincent" ๐Ÿ™ ๐Ÿ™ by Tim Burton was shown at the Annecy International Animation Film Festival, and I still haven't seen anything quite as good as that...

I feel like Leviathan deserved its award completely ๐Ÿ‘. On the other hand, the worst film in my opinion was "tango Nero," simply because there wasn't really any reason for it to be animated in the first place...๐Ÿ‘Ž

Carol Jackson45 said:Does anyone happen to remember the name of that incredibly unpleasant little film? It wasn't even part of the official competition, but it was used to kick off the screening of the award-winning films. ๐Ÿ™‚

The mandatory dress code for the bow-tie crowd. ๐Ÿ‘

I feel exactly the same way. Itโ€™s a brilliant piece of filmmaking. Honestly, I haven't seen ideas this imaginative, charming, or genuinely funny in quite some time. ๐Ÿ˜
At the Annecy International Animation Film Festival, we managed to snag a Special Recognition ZlYDNI along with the Audience Award. How exactly did he manage to make it into the competition? ๐Ÿ˜•

Regarding the awards... Iโ€™ve sat through most of the films this year. I can wrap my head around that British filmmaker taking home the top prizeโ€”that felt somewhat expected. But why on earth was Student Film Entertainment picked as the best student entry? It isn't exactly a disaster, but let's be honest: there were at least a dozen superior films in that lineup if you look at them chronologically. ๐Ÿ™‚ Click-clack. Like being badgered by a relentless auditor. A precise, rhythmic number. Animals in love. ๐Ÿ˜ The building stands there, silent and heavy. Itโ€™s all about those small, deep love storiesโ€”the kind that don't make headlines but settle in your bones like a winter chill. Think of a quiet pond, perfectly still until a stone breaks the surface. Thatโ€™s how it feels. Act 1, Scene 2. A chaotic blur of runaway hula hoops and grandmothers flipping pancakes. Life is rarely a straight line; itโ€™s usually just a series of strange, domestic collisions.

I had much higher expectations for Mulloy's film. While the core concept behind the piece is solid, the actual execution felt a bit shaky. It's a shame, really.

Watched it last night. 'Leviathan' is just pretentious garbage. Ivica is a total legend though! ๐Ÿ™ That chunky British one was solid, and this German piece? Way ahead of the curve. I actually died laughing at the butterfly in that digital English version.

I only caught a bit on Friday, and honestly, ๐Ÿ˜‰ oh George was easily my favorite.
Even those parrots weren't half bad... though that "us" piece let me down a little. It felt way too try-hard and pretentious for my taste.
Judging by how much people were raving about Ivan budalica, it's pretty obvious that audiences still have a massive soft spot for those classic animated fairy tales. ๐Ÿ˜‰ I have to admit, though, it turned out to be pretty hilarious. ๐Ÿ™‚

So, how did the bears end up doing? I had to step out right at the climax. ๐Ÿ˜ข

They unnamed one of his drawings, so the soldier shipped him off to Siberia, and they all just went back to living in the woods. Last scene shows them climbing that same tree they used to climb when they were kids ๐Ÿ™‚
