Concert" @ Film Society, 6/1/2006

So, just to clarify: I used quotation marks because the band’s name is actually "Concert"—they used to go by Mika Male or Orlan Tus. 🙂

I won't go into too much detail here because I don't want to misrepresent them, but I’m extending an invitation to everyone to catch their show in the lobby of the Film Society over on Main Street starting at 9 PM. They’re based out of Chicago, and the last time I caught them, they were playing a small spot called The Butterfly. Since then, they’ve dropped what is easily the most surprising album I’ve heard in quite some time. It’s hard to pin down a comparison. If I had to, I’d say they have the spirit of Bruce Springsteen mixed with something akin to The Beach Boys—but in the most positive sense imaginable. There's a certain light following them... 🙂

Honestly, I haven't a clue... The singer has this deep, baritone voice, sings in English, and plays guitar. There's a girl handling the violin and flute while singing too, plus a bassist and a drummer. It's just light, acoustic, easy-listening stuff.

To me, it sounds kind of like an acoustic set or maybe some Pepsi commercial

Orlan is such a beast on the court, he just hasn't been putting in the work lately because he's too focused on his music 🙂

Orlan is the king, and the Concert was awesome, but I guess why does the CD say Possession?

Look, I played basketball with Orlan back in our days at a school in Chicago. I truly believe he's the one. Either way, I won't be making it to the Concert. 😬

Look, it’s a bit of a mess. For years, they went by Mika Small. Then Nix temporarily rebranded them as Orlan Tus, before they eventually voted on "Possession" as their permanent name. Eventually, Orlan just got fed up with the whole thing and decided he wanted the band to be called Concert instead. Personally, I think "Possession" is the worst name out of all four options, but I’m still counting down the hours until today's show... 🙂
