What kind of products would you recommend if I want to work on my hair's thickness and overall quality? Also, does anyone know a top-tier dermatologist in Washington, D.C.? I’ve got this nagging feeling that my hair is looking thinner than usual, so I'm thinking it's time to go in for a professional consultation.

I honestly think you should probably get your hormone levels checked first, and then if everything looks totally fine, maybe head over to the dermatologist.

Honestly, it all comes down to what you're putting in your body, so I’d say make sure you're getting plenty of fruits, veggies, walnuts, and almonds—but especially lots of dairy—and you'll probably see your hair start looking way more vibrant in just about two weeks. No amount of fancy salon products is going to do much if you aren't nourishing it from the inside out, I guess.
I know, I know, this might sound like some old wives' tale or like someone's trying to brainwash you with outdated advice, but I'm telling you this strictly from my own personal experience.
If you've been on some kind of crazy diet lately, there's a pretty good chance your hair and nails are going to take a hit, but once you get back to a regular, balanced eating routine, everything usually starts looking better almost immediately.

So, where’s actually the best place to get my hormone levels checked? And more importantly, what kind of lab work am I even looking at here?

You’ll want to look into blood work for thyroid function and reproductive hormones. General hair thinning or a loss of texture can often be traced back to thyroid issues or ovarian imbalances, so getting those levels checked is a smart move. I’d suggest touching base with your primary care physician first to see if there are other symptoms they should know about. While you could try to get a referral through insurance, it can be a bit hit-or-miss depending on how quickly they can fit you in or if they require a specific diagnosis first. Honestly, heading to a private lab like Quest Diagnostics might be faster, though you'll have to pay out of pocket.
Basically, talk to your doctor first.

Every local drugstore seems to offer those free scalp exams under a microscope lately... though they usually just try to upsell you on a million overpriced drops or some other nonsense where you pay a fortune for one single use... BUT I've just been sticking to Biotin—you know, Vitamin H—for over a year now. I grab a 100-count bottle at the pharmacy with at least 300% RDA and that's all I need... my hair has finally started thickening up slowly... 1. results show up in a week or two, and it's only about $15! 🙂

I found that using Pantene shampoo from L'Oréal 👍 along with some hair vitamins—honestly, any brand works—really turned things around for me. My hair was thinning quite a bit, which was honestly a little stressful, but after sticking with this specific shampoo for about a month and a half, the situation improved drastically.

Diet, stress, and crash dieting can absolutely wreck your hair. When you aren't eating enough, you're basically starving your hair of the fuel it needs to grow properly. That's why stacking up on extra vitamins and minerals is huge... Biotin is definitely one way to go...
