Hey there! So, I’m wondering... am I actually fat?😕 I’m about 5'5" and weigh around 128 pounds. My stomach is totally flat, but my legs feel heavy and my hips are wide. Can someone please tell me what a healthy weight range should be for someone my size? Honestly, I’m aiming to drop about 22 pounds. Is that going too far? And if so, how on earth do I even start losing it? Thanks a million!

Look, girl. I’m 5'6" and about 143 pounds, so I've got a slim build. By comparison, you're clearly struggling with an eating disorder—go get some professional help.

It really just depends on your own makeup...
I’d honestly suggest checking in with your primary care doctor—or maybe someone who can point you in the right direction—to get an actual body fat percentage reading. You really want a pro looking at your flexibility and other vitals before anyone even suggests a weight loss plan...
Those basic BMI charts—just height versus weight—don't actually tell you anything useful.

🙂

I guess you just have that kind of build where your legs and hips are naturally stronger. It’s hard to imagine someone who's 5'5" and 128 lbs being considered overweight.

Probably not. You're just built that way naturally with a heavier lower body, so losing weight isn't going to change that.

Believe me—I’ve been dealing with a heavier lower body since my teens, a struggle spanning some thirty years now—and there really isn't much one can do about it. At 5'7", I’ve generally hovered between 130 and 145 lbs (though the upper limit is creeping up lately—the inevitable toll of aging), yet even when I was down to 110 lbs, my hips and thighs remained unchanged.👎 My advice? Focus your workouts on the lower body—I’m a dedicated roller skater myself—and cycling is quite effective...

The only way to truly slim down the hips and legs would be liposuction—but that seems like a rather drastic measure.😕

Good for you if those are really your biggest problems in life.

What would you guys say is a healthy weight for someone my size? I’m thinking about dropping 10 pounds... is that overkill? And any advice on how to actually make it happen? Thanks a ton.

We can't exactly tell you if you're overweight or not on this forum—it’s just not that kind of place.

If you’ve got wide hips—basically just a wide pelvic structure—that’s just how your bones are built. There isn't much you can do about it. Same goes for losing too much weight; if you get too thin, things just won't sit right. Then again, I don't know what your specific build looks like.

Like Betty Cox30 said—just put in the work. Train. 👍

Some people just aren't built to be skinny—it looks terrible on them. They’d honestly look a lot better with a few extra pounds on their frame. Then you have the people where being thin actually works. It all comes down to style, really. 😉

Seriously, unless you're dealing with Hepatitis C, bone cancer, or sepsis, just shut up. For real, give me a break.

Give me a break. What kind of medical crisis is "slightly wider hips"?🙄
Is this some new deadly virus, somehow worse than avian flu?🤣

Anyone know what a "normal" weight should be for me? I’m honestly thinking about dropping 20 lbs... is that going way too far? And if so, any tips on how to actually do it? Thanks so much!

Hey, you guys in the health group—do me a favor and go check out coppermaker77's profile... just to see how clueless you all really are? 🙂

hehe... you'd probably be thrilled if you managed to lose even 4 pounds, let alone 22... you can dream though...😎
