On Tuesday, March 28th, at 7:00 PM, we’re hosting an introductory session for our filmmaking workshop—covering everything from screenwriting and directing to camera work, lighting, and editing—over at the Film Forum Theater in Times Square.

The workshop is structured into three distinct segments, each led by a different instructor: Goran Dević [lighting and screenwriting], Robert Krivec [camera and lighting], and Staša Čelan [editing].

During the sessions, we’ll balance the core theory with plenty of hands-on practice. Participants will be split into small groups to actually build a film from scratch, starting with the initial idea and script, moving through filming, and finishing up with the final edit.

Once you’ve successfully passed the final commission exam at the end of the workshop, you’ll officially become a member of Film Forum. This grants you access to all the production resources the club offers (and they are actually quite substantial). You can also sign up for advanced workshops, which are free for all club members—things like the experimental film workshop led by Vlado Knežević or the documentary workshop headed by Damir Čučić. 🙂

The cost for the workshop (which basically covers your enrollment) is just $267[😲 ]. I guess it’s a pretty low amount considering everything you get out of it in the end.

Hopefully, I'll see you this Tuesday (March 28th) at 7:00 PM at Film Forum, where you can learn a whole lot more about how it all works.

And what exactly does that entail? A little more substance wouldn't hurt.

You have a website, so don't go messing with the man.

Look—if you feel the need to emphasize how low the price is compared to the value, then maybe just actually state what that value is.

But you do get the course itself, plus access to use the club's gear later on and the chance to take specialized workshops! It's all right there in the description.

😕
...that I wrote it all myself [though Kimberly Gomez28 is right...]

I guess the possibilities are pretty huge; it really just comes down to whether you're actually going to make use of them...
For instance, if you're submitting films to festivals, the club covers those costs... (like shipping and stuff)

Obviously, you can't just borrow the equipment to shoot weddings or funerals... unless, of course, that's part of a film project...

...but even just the workshop itself is a pretty useful thing to do...

...so, feel free to come by for the unbound introductory lecture this Tuesday at 7 PM... then you can judge for yourself...

My apologies if I seemed oblivious—I noticed there was something being sold here, so I wanted to know exactly what we’re looking at. What specific gear are we talking about, how long are these workshops, and which festivals can we actually submit finished pieces to? Basically, I want to know what those $267 are actually paying for.

So, shipping is extra. Thanks.

The workshop costs $267, but the thing is, you actually can't become a member of Film Forum without passing both an exam and this workshop. I guess you could say the whole workshop is basically just an extended part of the Film Forum admissions process.

In an ideal scenario, the whole thing takes about six weeks...
[Screenwriting & Directing]-2 weeks...
[Camera & Lighting]-2 weeks...
[Production]-Saturday/Sunday (about 5 hours)
[Editing]-2 weeks...

{To put it another way, you pick up some essential skills during the workshop, and only then can you join Film Forum. It’s not exactly open to just anyone; I suppose it acts as a bit of a selection process.}

As far as gear goes, the most interesting stuff is the cameras—mostly digital tech like miniDV, DVcam, or DV...

Take a Sony DVcam [TCR-170], for example. I don't think I even need to mention how much something like that would set you back!?!?

Uh, honestly, that sounds pretty perfect for what I’ve got going on right now. Between finishing up my senior thesis and trying to wrap my head around this short film I've been working on—I'm actually in the home stretch, thank goodness—I still have all this editing left to tackle...
See you guys on Tuesday!

[I should probably point one more thing out...]

Film Forum doesn't actually receive any direct funding from the federal or local government budgets. It’s not like we have a guaranteed slice of the pie every year. Instead, we rely entirely on winning grants, which basically means our survival depends on how solid and high-quality our own projects turn out to be...

And I think this really proves that point—> 🙏 🙏 🙏 🙏 🙏 🙏 🙏 🙏 🙏 🙏

don't you think?!

Where do you guys keep those old diplomas? 😵 Might swing by to check. Let me know when your classes are scheduled and I'll drop in. Think I could teach you a thing or two.🧐

...I'm honestly not sure where they ended up. They used to be sitting on a shelf somewhere, but since people always seem to forget to pick them up, there were quite a few left over...

To be honest, I have no clue if they're still hanging around at the club...

I'll have to look into it, though I think I'll need your legal name to track them down properly...

Eh, I wouldn't know if they're still at the club or what...
We'll have to check, but I'm going to need your actual legal name to look anything up...

You mean blueranger12's real name? No clue, I only know him as blueranger12.😁 😁...
And I wasn't even hanging out with you guys; I was over at the Lincoln Center. Besides, back then they weren't handing out diplomas, and as far as I know, they aren't really doing that now either. :-)

The difference is exactly 30 hours and 3 minutes.

Seriously, Bryan Torres, do you actually expect people to check out Reddit more often than they change their underwear? 😛 😳

I'll sell you my degree for $13 🙈
