I have such a deep affinity for R.E.M., but
on this particular album, they seemed to lose their way (is it gone for good??)

R.E.M. - At my most beautiful

I’ve found a way to make you
I’ve found a way
A way to make you smile

I read bad poetry
Into your machine
I save your messages
Just to hear your voice
You always listen carefully
To awkward rhymes
You always say your name,
Like I wouldn’t know it’s you,
At your most beautiful

At my most beautiful
I count your eyelashes, secretly
With every one, whisper I love you
I let you sleep
I know you’re closed eye watching me,
Listening
Listening I thought I saw a smiling face 🙂 🙂 🙂

Honestly, to me, it isn't just something tolerable; it's absolutely sweet. The difference being 😕

Um... In another thread, people are out here praising Tony Cetinski as some legendary vocalist even though his songwriting is trash. Now we're talking about one of the most distinct, iconic voices in the history of pop music, and he's just a "hack"? 🙂
Look, I'm not gonna defend all the garbage Stewart put out—even in those later albums where I actually had the patience to listen, there are a few hidden gems tucked away—but that era with Jeff Beck, "Every Picture Tells a Story," and parts of his time with Faces? That's pure gold. You have to respect it.
Like Nicholas Perez33 said, if you have a problem with "Maggie May," you're just not right in the head. 😬

What a strange take. Faces 🙂

Nicholas Perez33 said:Ugh, glass. Faces. 🙂

And what he did back when he was with the Jeff Beck Group was still...
Better.
a bit more intense...
That's just insane...

I hope you actually took the time to listen to "Truth"...
What an absolute masterpiece of an album...

Not really. I’m actually rooting for some of the dinosaurs. I might just go ahead and bet on them...

I’d love to throw some shade your way, but honestly, I haven't quite figured out how to do that with vinyl records yet... 😬

Man, I have to admit, I never really saw him that way, so whatever you say, I guess...🙂

Here's something for the list - Prince - Purple Rain rolls
(way better in the Stina Nordenstam version)

(like Prince - Cinnamon Girl) 😍

stormyviper11 said:What exactly is so dubious about them? 🙂

The only thing dubious is the fact that they’re being called slugs.

I’m with you on Rod, even if I haven't memorized every single era of his career. I have Gasoline Alley and Every Picture Tells a Story, both of which should be considered essential listening for any roots music enthusiast—they are fantastic albums, not just for the vocals, but for the arrangements and the songwriting itself. I honestly don't get how someone can worship at the altar of Stones, Exile on Main St., or Gram Parsons while dismissing Rod Stewart as just some sleazy playboy.
And frankly, I don't hear anything suggestive when he performs I don't wanna... It’s nothing but pure sadness, misery, and denial.
