Lately, thereโ€™s been this song by Ivanna playing on the radio constantly (I think she mentions the Mississippi and some crazy girl in the lyrics ๐Ÿ˜•). Honestly, the track itself is an absolute disasterโ€”not even worth mentioning. But the weird part is how incredibly familiar the sample sounds.

So, I woke up this morning, did my usual routine of putting on Depeche Mode just to get the vibes right ๐Ÿ˜

only to realize that the sample was ripped straight from "Question of Time" ๐Ÿคฎ

Now, thanks to Ivanna, listening to such a masterpiece is actually kind of ruined for me. Every time the song comes on, all I can hear in my head is "Mississippi... crazy girl..." ๐Ÿคฎ Itโ€™s awful.

Anyone else dealt with this? ๐Ÿ™‚

I honestly feel like Depeche Mode kind of ruined an amazing song by Ivanna Brkiฤ‡ for me!

Well, thatโ€™s physically impossible considering Depeche Mode has been around way longer than Ivanna Brkiฤ‡ ๐Ÿ˜ข

So, whatโ€™s your take on how Thompson managed to go and mess up like 50% of everything The Beatles did?!? ๐Ÿ‘Ž

Honestly, I haven't a clue. Which ones are we talking about?

Itโ€™s some nonsense like "Beyond Nine Villages" or whatever,๐Ÿ˜ณ
Thereโ€™s more out there, but I don't bother listening to Thompson. Most of it just feels like they're ripping off The Beatlesโ€”or maybe it was ABBA, honestly, my memory isn't what it used to be, though I'm leaning toward ABBA...๐Ÿ˜

Thereโ€™s more, but I don't really listen to Thompson; most of it sounds like they're just ripping off The Beatles, or maybe it was ABBAโ€”honestly, I can't tell, though I'm leaning toward ABBA... ๐Ÿ˜

It's definitely ABBA, that's what I was waiting for you to clarify. ๐Ÿ˜‰

Saying 50% of it comes from The Beatles... ๐Ÿคฃ You're losing it... ๐Ÿ˜

Anyway, back to the point: Ivanna Brkiฤ‡ and that Depeche Mode sample in her quasi-song. I'm genuinely curious if Ivanna actually credited DM on her album cover. If there happens to be someone on this forum deranged enough to actually own that CD, I'd appreciate it if you could take a look and let us know. ๐Ÿ™‚

P. S. Stormrider, just so you know, the track Thompson borrowed the theme from for "Beyond Nine Villages" is actually Super Trouper.

super trooper
beaming gonna blind me

If you actually listen to Super Trooper and Beyond Nine Villages with an objective ear, you will realize that perhaps 5% of the chorus is similar
and absolutely nothing else!!!
If you attempt a simple experimentโ€”specifically, if you try to hum the melody of Super Trooper and then hum the melody of Beyond Nine Villagesโ€”you will find they aren't even remotely alike...

A much more blatant example of Thompson's plagiarism is Gen Kamen, which is just a cover of Vanhalen Jump.
And nothing else...

Try a quick little experiment: if you mess with the melody of Super Trooper and then mess with the melody of Beyond Nine Villages, youโ€™ll see they aren't even in the same ballpark...

A much better example of Thompson's plagiarism is Gen Kamen, which is basically just a cover of Vanhalen Jump.
That's the only real connection...

The thing is, both of them are plagiaries. Personally, I think "Gen Kamen" leans way more toward AC/DC's "Thunderstruck."๐Ÿ˜‰

Thatโ€™s what happens when you don't switch the station fast enough, man...

p.s. who even is Ivanna? ๐Ÿ˜ฌ

To be honest, Iโ€™m not even 100% sure sheโ€™s the one singing this track; it could just as easily be Lana Kurcevic at play. ๐Ÿ˜

Aha... you mean the one with the drawer? I'm talking about the beard!

try a simple experiment: strip the melody from both tracks. if you do that, you'll see they aren't even close...

They're definitely similar. Like, 80% similarity in the choruses, easy. Try writing them out on sheet music if you think you're so smart. Just pull the melodic sequence and basic rhythm and you'll see...

Man, looking at your avatar, itโ€™s like youโ€™re dancing to some cheesy folk tune instead of "Black Celebration" ๐Ÿ˜‚

Itโ€™s giving me major vibes of watching a local street performer in Times Square ๐Ÿ˜

Just clapping along, throwing your hands up, and shouting, "Let's go!" Go ahead then, perform a song with my name on it ๐Ÿ™‚
