Exactly. At the end of the day, the artists didn't write or record the music themselves, so why should they be the ones bearing the brunt? Arguing over who gets what feels pointless. If you want to watch movies, pay for them; if you want to listen to the soundtrack, pay for that too. That's just how capitalism works, isn't it?

The issue isn't that you have to pay for music. Fine. I pay. My problem is specifically with how Warner Bros. collects and distributes the money. Their entire system is basically criminal and predatory.

I don't have any issues with how the money is distributed, and honestly, I'm starting to see the logic behind the collection process too. As far as the payouts go, they're based on units sold. The collection method is what it is, though I find the way concert revenue is gathered to be incredibly inefficient and frankly quite amateurish.

I’m not going to waste my time or bandwidth arguing about Warner Bros. again just to restate that they operate like a mafia. It’s basically a state-sanctioned syndicate.

There is no other way to explain an organization that sends the police to a venue's door with a cease-and-desist order to shut down a show—like an Against Me! concert, for instance—regardless of the fact that the band itself signed paperwork waiving their royalties specifically to benefit the club.

And then, to top it all off, Warner Bros. spends the next year dragging that same club through the courts because the concert went ahead anyway.

Of course you'd agree when you're hungry for a paycheck.🙂 I still don't see the logic in this: when I buy a blank CD just to burn work files, some demos from a local garage band, and photos of naked women, a percentage of my money goes straight to the likes of Jay-Z, Taylor Swift, and Metallica...🙂

How many CDs did you end up burning, and how much music did you download from the web?

Look, if I’m breaking the law, then let them penalize me for what I actually did, not for some hypothetical future offense. 🙂 Besides, it feels fundamentally wrong to hand over cash to those artists whose albums nobody is even buying or downloading... 🙂

About 60 percent of all the funds collected end up going to foreign nonprofits, international publishing houses, and overseas film associations—which means a chunk of that money even finds its way to the Ramones.
