I’m not totally sold on whether this whole thing is justified, but honestly, the arguments from the critics are usually even stupider than the stuff the supporters are pushing.

You're only agreeing with this imposition because you want to throw money at some struggling artist on the front lines of the American arts scene, and hey, your reasons are totally valid. But forcing stuff onto empty media platforms is an incredibly stupid way to execute what might actually be a good idea. You've got a point there, but honestly, that's just how the whole federal machine works, and this kind of tax isn't exactly breaking new ground. When you go to fill up a tank of gas for, I don't know, a tiller out in Maui, you're paying into those excise taxes meant for building and maintaining interstate highways you'll probably never drive on. There are dozens of examples like that, from museum fees to cultural heritage levies, whatever they're calling them these days... Is it fair? Not really, but it keeps the system limping along. You can either join some radical revolution and try to tear the whole thing down, or you can just accept it...

Just read the previous page because you'll see I already acknowledged this isn't a precedent. I compared it to paying for a cable subscription and said I'd pay it, obviously, but that I reserve the right to complain about it since it's unfair. To me, this is even more unfair than gas prices or cable bills. And now I'm writing the exact same thing for the fourth time. 😢

People act like they're following some moral code, just like hollowseal33 says we should all stick to being fair, but instead, everyone’s just out here spying on each other. It’s pretty stupid to cherry-pick which principles to follow just when it suits you, then suddenly start attacking every little flaw in the system the moment you feel personally targeted. This whole Zamp rogue association mandate is fundamentally dumb. It's just as ridiculous as forcing local coffee shops and barbers to pay a flat $17 monthly fee just to control what music plays in the shop. All it does is ensure the barbers and bar owners won't go broke; they'll just pass those costs right back onto us drinkers...
