Freshman blowout: FER-05 edition

Yeah, that beer was something else—I knocked back seven of them and still felt almost sober...

I spent most of my night tearing up the dance floor during that eighties set—staying right in the thick of it until the crowd got too rowdy...

I was absolutely exhausted by the time the Atheists took the stage; I just slumped against the railing and crashed right next to the speakers... 🙂
Some lady ended up waking me up after their third song, so I grabbed a couple of beers and made my way back just in time to catch the end of their set...

Clinch was incredible—I was jumping all over the place in the middle of the floor. Even the president was alright, and honestly, even that ska band that opened was actually fun to dance to... Edward was... rapping... though he definitely wasn't playing the sax...

All in all, it was a pretty solid night. The venue itself is fantastic.

Honestly, I have no idea how you guys managed to score that much cheap beer. I seriously thought that stuff from the festival kit was some kind of exclusive, limited edition vintage...

Anyway, I had an absolute blast. The headliners were solid, Kid Kong's energy was insane (from the second row), and since I only caught one set by Edward, he was great too. But the Atheists—who were actually the main reason I went—were incredible... I managed to catch them pretty well, especially considering how loud everything gets at the Spider Fest, though I spent my time jumping between the second row, the middle, and right behind the stage before ending up back in the crowd.

The highlight was when I got distracted and ran into a lost friend. She tried to drag me toward the front to start moshing, but I kept whining that I’d already seen the whole thing, that they hadn't even started playing yet (my favorite line)... then, right at that exact moment, they started playing. 😍 I felt like such an idiot! 😁

Kid Kong had his shirt unbuttoned a bit 😁 but it was awesome. 😁 It didn't feel quite like a typical Bruce Springsteen show, which actually made it even better. My only gripe was those kids standing next to me in the second row, screaming about how much they wanted to hear Edward.

During Edward's set, I headed outside to wander around and catch up with friends, then drifted back in for No Worries, which is actually 😬 one of my favorites. They played that one song, and then the Atheists came on 😍—by the time the Lieutenants were playing, I was in a totally different dimension and slowly started heading home.

It was freezing over at the festival cafe, though that other room was pumping. I didn't really check out the cinema area. The crowd size was perfect, too. One great thing about the Spider Fest is that there are way more women there than at any other festival, I think. 😁

My memory is a little fuzzy on this one... 😢

The venue was genius and the organization was top-notch, plus the staff was great... though some folks were a bit rude and high-strung. It was okay, I guess. But honestly? I felt like the vibe was missing something. It just didn't have that certain spark you expect at an event like this. At least not for me... anyway, that's just how it felt.

I had such a blast! Honestly, I mostly went just to see Fat and Atheist. I rolled up around 9:45, but looking back, maybe I should’ve waited another half hour to dodge Clinch and that crazy old lady playing the banjo 😁 . Fat was absolutely killing it, as always—Koca is a total legend 😍 . After Fat finished, I hung out for a bit during Kid Kong and then caught some Bass Invaders to move around a little... stayed there until Atheist played (since I'm not really a fan of Edward). I finally saw them yesterday and wow, they totally blew me away! Such a great vibe and the energy was unreal. Not sure if the sound system was top-tier or not, but I could hear everything perfectly since I was right up front. Right next to the speakers, obviously 😁 .

I can't say for sure since I wasn't running with the freshmen crowd, but if I recall, the setup in the Grand Hall belonged to some guy from Indianapolis I've never even heard of, while the Small Hall had the American Chemical Society gear.

We’ll be hosting at the Grand Hall—specifically Digby's, the one from the open-air festival... For Smallville, we're still scouting. How much are you looking for to make that happen? If it's even possible to arrange. And if you happen to know...

The dressing room crew was being totally difficult for no reason—they should have just done their jobs. And the security at the entrance too. Why start acting up now when everything turned out fine? I guess... yeah...
