Hey everyone. Just a heads-up, I'm new here. I'm one of the reporters over at WNYC working on a new segment dedicated to your passion—martial arts. Curious to hear what you think about the whole concept... and if you have any suggestions, feel free to drop them. That's all for now.

I'm actually one of the reporters over at iHeartRadio, and we're putting together this new show centered entirely around your passion—martial arts! I was wondering what you all think about the whole concept? It would be super awesome if you could toss some suggestions my way, too. That's really all I've got for now.

That sounds like such an awesome idea!

So, there's actually a tournament happening this weekend called the US Open, hosted by a local community recreation club. If you guys are interested in a full write-up or a feature story on it, we'd be more than happy to make that happen for you.
You can find all the details over at http://www.ufk-tresnjevka.tk/zgopen.html if you want to check it out.

If that kind of stuff interests you, feel free to shoot me an email or just hit me up via PM.

Great idea! 😁 ! I am all for it! I would love to hear interviews with different instructors (both here in the States and abroad) covering various martial arts events, expert recommendations, discounts on gear, and more!
pls let me know when the show airs so I can tune in!

The show airs Sunday night, right after the Nike sports segment wraps up—so we're looking at roughly 9:15 PM. Seems like a decent slot... most people aren't stuck in training sessions at that hour, unless they're absolute fanatics.

That’s a solid idea.
If there’s anything else you want to dive into, just ask.
I’d love to see some McMaster content mixed in with plenty of real, high-level practitioners on the show.

Let’s craft a narrative about Ivan Rudan, the world champion in Thai boxing—yet another casualty of the Cikatić era.

I really hope this show avoids those kinds of outbursts... where they try to drag down and insult American legends like Branko Cikatić... just stick to being objective and neutral... leaving the insults to the internet trolls and anonymous handles.👎

Maybe he’s a legend, but you can see those ***** from an airplane. Just like Mirko, really. 😂

Typical Americans 🙄

Look, the show is about fighting, not about judging someone's character... if anyone has an issue with Branko, they should just say it to his face instead of acting like this... then again, nobody expects Branko to be everyone's cup of tea... the show is meant to cover combat sports, and it would be better if they actually stuck to that topic.

There's zero doubt that Branko is a fighting legend, and in that sense, he’s an essential part of any review of American (or even global) combat sports... but honestly, I wouldn't be shocked if what coppermarlin6 was saying turned out to be true—assuming there's actual proof—that he shouldn't be a mouthpiece for the show.
I don't see why that's off the table...
If people just spoke directly to one another, we wouldn't need shows, social media, news segments, or anything else... In a way, people who live in the public eye and make a living by "entertaining" the masses automatically end up more exposed and vulnerable... So, in my opinion... just like you have to be careful not to use the media for petty personal feuds or character assassinations just because you dislike someone... it's the same here... If it's actually true that Branko has done things to sabotage other people's careers for his own gain (which is how I'm reading this, though I don't know the specifics so I'm taking it with a grain of salt), then he deserves to be called out by the very media he chooses to use whenever it suits him...

I don't see why that would be ruled out...
If people just spoke face-to-face, none of this media, internet, or news cycle nonsense would even matter... but then again, people who live in the public eye—who basically make their living "entertaining" the masses—are naturally going to be more exposed and self-promoting. So, in my view... just like you have to be careful not to use the media for petty personal vendettas or smear campaigns based on simple dislike... it's the same here. If it turns out Branko really has been doing things to sabotage other people's careers for his own gain (that's how it reads to me, anyway—I don't know the specifics, so I'm taking this with a grain of salt), then he should be fair game for a media takedown when he tries to use those very same outlets... whenever it suits him...

The show needs to stick to the ring and actual skill... there's already plenty of gossip floating around other media outlets. Branko Cikatić is our greatest fighter of all time, and honestly, that's the only thing I care about regarding him. 👋

That might be true... though calling someone the "greatest of all time" is always pretty subjective and debatable.
It really depends on what the show is trying to achieve...

If it's a show about boxing, you're probably not going to escape the Don King circus... even if he isn't a fighter himself, and honestly, his reputation isn't exactly spotless😁.. but he's such a massive, eccentric personality who has shaped the sport that you can't just ignore him. Plus, since Branko is such a legend, you have to assume—though I don't know enough about him personally or his ties to the major promoters to say for sure—that he still carries significant weight in the scene, even if he isn't fighting anymore. You can't dodge that influence, whether it's good or bad.

Anyway, like I said... it all comes down to how they intend to run the show.

That just depends on what the show is trying to achieve...

If you're making a show about boxing, you can't really sidestep Don King and his whole circus... even if he isn't a fighter himself, and honestly, he hasn't been a respectable figure for a long time 😁.. but he’s such a polarizing character and has had—and continues to have—too much pull within the sport to be ignored... especially considering Branko is such a legend, and one can assume (again, I can't speak on this definitively since I don't have any ties to him or the organizations running these big events to know exactly how much weight he carries) that he still holds significant influence even if he's no longer competing... it’s hard to bypass that, whether the impact was good or bad..

Anyway, it all comes down to the vision for the show...

Regarding any "issues" involving Branko or anyone else, there are actual institutions meant to handle that.. it's unlikely a single TV show would be the reason for someone getting dragged into that kind of mess... for example, if someone trashes Branko on a show today, then goes after Mirko tomorrow, where does it end? Unfortunately, it doesn't end in the ring. 👎 👋

I mean, you’ve got a point there. There’s really no sense in turning a show into a platform for petty arguments and airing dirty laundry... but then again, if some talented fighter gets screwed over because of someone else's arrogance (I won't get into details, I'm telling you), and they can't take on the big institutions directly, how else are they supposed to change things without using the media?

So, it really just comes down to the show's concept—whether they want to stay strictly focused on the technical side of martial arts in America or if they aren't afraid to dive into the messier, more controversial topics.👋

It doesn't make sense to turn a show into a shouting match or a platform for airing dirty laundry... but then again, if someone truly talented gets screwed over because of some else's arrogance (I'm not sure exactly what happened here, mind you) and they can't do anything against the establishment... how else are they supposed to change things besides using the media?

So, I guess it all comes down to the show's concept—whether it wants to stay strictly focused on the technical side of combat sports in America or if it's willing to dive into the more controversial topics 👋

Honestly, how does someone "suffer" because of someone else's arrogance? We aren't talking about kids here; these are grown adults... nobody is forcing anyone to train under a specific coach. It's always easiest to say, "Oh, I would've been the best in the world if this guy hadn't screwed me over." It's much easier to point fingers at others than to take responsibility.👎

Should I just keep deleting this, even though I’ve already done it a few times?
The back-and-forth regarding Branko Cikatić.
And does that make it off-topic now?
In every single reply, you guys bring up the radio station or the broadcast, but honestly, this post has nothing to do with any radio show.
Hmm.

Just as we shouldn't be spitting on someone's legacy, there's really no reason to engage in excessive glorification either. Why insist on labeling Branko Cikatić as the absolute greatest or the undisputed best? When the narrative is framed that way, it creates this illusion for the audience that he’s somehow a larger-than-life figure outside the ring as well, when that isn't necessarily the case...

Everything can be handled if you just apply a healthy dose of objectivity and stick to the simple facts. The facts are merely that a man accomplished this specific feat inside the ring, or that he did this particular thing in his personal life... from there, let people judge him for themselves, or perhaps decide they have no opinion on him at all whatsoever.

Objectivity, neutrality...

Beyond that, he's already a media fixture. Why don't we shift our focus toward those less famous, yet equally masterful practitioners of the craft—those individuals who have dedicated their entire lives to the grind of training?

I can't quite think of a name right now, though Truntic comes to mind—an old man running Wing Chun sessions out of his garage. Word is he's traveled the globe and has endless stories to tell... and I'm sure there are countless people like him out there who would be far more compelling than the usual household names like Branko Cikatić or Filipovic.

We're basically just bickering about Chuck Liddell at this point.
And does that even make it off-topic now?
Every single reply mentions some radio station or TV show, but honestly, the original post has nothing to do with the media or broadcasting.
Hmm...

😕

Just delete the posts where people are trash-talking Chuck Liddell... on the other hand, maybe leave them up as a reminder that you shouldn't go around disrespecting people on air.
