Tuesday night at the French reading room. We’re gonna have a few real frog aka sharks parked out front, plus my collection of freakish models from the Citroen club displayed in the window. Inside, we’ll be projecting a film from Paris—the same place where the whole frog kingdom gathered last month to celebrate fifty years of croaking. Naturally, I took them up on the offer to show off my collection, which basically meant I dropped about $160 on some Citroens I was missing, and probably even more on random other stuff just because... My room currently looks like this:

I didn't dare weigh in on Vonnegut since I've only read three of his books, but if those three are any indication, they are absolute masterpieces. Daniel Bailey7, isn't "Bluebreast" a newer release? I thought that one was excellent.

I’ve worked my way through three volumes of Sturgeon’s collected works, though I have no idea if there’s more out there... Dammit, I really need to make a trip to the local library soon.

I have a theory that every newborn should be handed a copy of Vonnegut’s "Galapagos" and Heller’s "Handle 22" right out of the gate... just so they learn early on exactly how little they can expect from the human race. 🙂

Bluebreast is from '87, if I recall correctly—it's just that the American translation is relatively recent... and sure, the book is solid, but it’s definitely not sitting among his absolute best.

A roommate dropped off this old collection of "meat dish" recipes at my place—it came bundled with some newspaper from back in '56. It’s wild; everything is written in the feminine voice, things like, "once you've chopped the onions and tossed them in the pan..." because apparently, back then, nobody actually believed a man would step foot in a kitchen. 😬

Honestly, it’s almost impressive how much of a disaster the leftovers of Heller's work turned out to be... He tried quoting "fajrunt" and some other piece—something split into two parts just like "handle 22"—and I was genuinely stunned by how abysmal the writing could actually get. 🙏

How do all those trashy mags like Meat Dish, Eternal Woman, My Beer, My Bathroom, My Phone, and whatever else manage to stay afloat while comics don't? I refuse to believe more people are buying Meat Dish.

Well, the cover features a stunning steak—raw, obviously—with just a hint of freshness peeking through in the form of some parsley leaves. Inside, however, you'll find an image of a naked ram and a rooster side by side.

As for my craft beer, I'll consider picking this up if it includes a complimentary pepper mill set; I have the perfect cellar setup for it😁 )
