And honestly... everyone here acts so casual about Tai Chi, like they don't even need a proper gi to take it seriously 😁 😁

Alright, I’m back to mess with you all again. I’ll just say this with a massive amount of theatrical, pathetic drama: every single traditional Tai Chi master is probably spinning in their grave right now knowing this beautiful art has been watered down into those tacky, Americanized weekend crash courses for beginners.
Tai Chi workshop 👏

Anyway, does anyone know if I can pick up a kimono 🙂 like the one in the photo at that link? They’re all honestly gorgeous... I really want one. 😍

Sure, but usually for Karate, not for Tai Chi 🙂 😬

Running is more my speed, so I'm big on breathable gear...😉

You can find Tai Chi kimonos at a shop out toward the suburbs near the highway (near my neighbor's place); I can't recall the exact name, but this is what they look like.

Regarding those weekend seminars, Tai Chi instructors have been coming through here for over 15 years (I know some folks in Seattle who attend), and it's perfectly fine for regular practitioners or even just for beginners to get a feel for it. These aren't "express" weekend courses, though—they're actual seminars. Besides, our own masters and teachers travel to China for seminars to study under their own mentors whenever they get the chance. 😉

I just keep mine at home.🙂

I honestly don't get it... it seems like some people here are taking this personally.😬

Linda Peterson said:You need nearly a year of daily training with a real master just to get enough knowledge to even sit for your first-degree Tai Chi certification. And honestly? You’ll be refining those techniques for the rest of your life...
I was worried Tai Chi would get commercialized and turn into something like Yoga—just a bunch of "instructors" running instant weekend workshops. Now, I'm just waiting for them to start pushing "Power Tai Chi" and all that other crap.🙄 🙂

Look, let’s be real: there has to be a show for the public. People who dig flashy stuff advertised by someone like Madonna will head straight for that "power yoga" vibe, or whatever place lets them wear a kimono if they're that into it. And honestly, what's the harm? How does that affect you? You do your thing for yourself. Those trends don't move the needle for me at all. So what! Some people actually find deeper, better paths through those things—paths they might never have found if everything were kept behind closed doors in some secret society.

Down in Seattle, they ran this project where they brought Tai Chi to the city parks leading up to the Olympics. It was open to everyone—no special gear or fancy requirements needed. I love that mindset. The whole point is that people work on themselves, and anyone can do it, not just the elite few... and it worked. Seeing the seniors out there with so much spirit and energy really made my day.

People who are obsessed with all that flashy stuff Madonna endorses can go join some trendy Power Yoga class or whatever, or wear kimonos if they love them that much... so what? What does it have to do with you? You do your thing for yourself. Personally, none of that stuff moves the needle for me.

How exactly does what's happening affect me? It doesn't. But you just had to jump in and be a jerk about it, didn't you?😁 Well, guess what?😁 I’m doing the same.😛 This topic is right here, it's about the Tai Chi I've been practicing for two years, and that's the end of it.

To be specific, for the Olympics being held in China in 2008, hundreds of local Tai Chi schools are going to be part of the opening ceremony, and they've been prepping for this since 2004. Is that what you're writing about?!

As for fashion, trends, and all that nonsense, I don't give a damn, actually.

🤣

It’s clear we’ve all been completely blinded by this overwhelming sense of cosmic tolerance 🙏 🙏

Two whole years of following that nonsense, and look where it got us 👍

It’s pretty obvious we’ve all been hit by this wave of "cosmic tolerance" nonsense. 🙏 🙏

That whole chia seed craze from two years ago was just as much of a waste of time. 👍

Do you honestly believe that practicing Tai Chi or anything like it actually makes you some kind of enlightened, cosmic saint?😂

Look, real-world problems require real-world solutions.😉 Wearing a kimono and meditating isn't going to fix your life—you should probably realize that by now. At the very least, it might make you somewhat immune to everyone else's stupidity.👋

By the way, what do you actually bring to this conversation? Is your entire experience with Tai Chi just wearing a kimono on your days off, or is there more to it?😕

Zero tolerance.
That’s exactly why the girls can't ever really get into the vibe... there aren't any kimonos, incense, lotus flowers, or even decent walls... I mean, seriously, you can't just show up to a Tai Chi session in some sweaty gym sweats and a tank top. It’s like trying to run a marathon in your slippers while sitting in your living room...
Ladies, please....😲

😁 😁

Seriously, Melissa Cruz2, you’re just making things way more complicated than they need to be.😁😁

You clearly don't get it. The second you step foot into a Tai Chi studio, you suddenly become all "tolerant" and soft.☕ And let me tell you, once you actually put on the gear, it's like you develop superpowers.😁

You clearly don't get it. You walk into a Tai Chi studio and suddenly you're all about tolerance and peace...☕ then once you actually put on the gear, it's like you develop superpowers...😁

😉

then you can basically fly through the air like some movie stuntman...🎉

Linda Peterson said:Anyway, what do you actually have to say about this topic? Is your only experience with Tai Chi just wearing a kimono in your spare time or something?..😕

My experience is even more limited than that... I bought a kimono simply because I like how it looks 😬 ... but honestly, it’s hilarious watching everyone get so worked up... as if it's some competition where "my Tai Chi is better than yours."🙂

Melissa Cruz2 said:For crying out loud, you guys can't just show up to Tai Chi class in sweatpants and tank tops.

Look, you can do Tai Chi in sweats and a T-shirt if you want, but ideally, you're barefoot, in socks, or wearing slippers (kind of like those gym class slippers we used to wear back in middle school 😁).
Personally, I prefer being barefoot. It gives me more freedom of movement, and honestly, I don't care if I'm wearing sweats, drawstring linen pants, or a kimono. 👋
