Robert Cooper41 said:Easily one of the best film documentaries I've ever seen.

Actually—the book "Losing the Light" about filming Baron Munchausen is even better.

If Hunter S. Thompson were still around, he’d probably say, "This is how I want to be remembered."🙂

Yeah, so there's that... I watched it and honestly, it’s not as bad as its reception suggests. It’s decent entertainment and definitely wasn't a waste of time. Visually, it hits the spot, but the tone feels a bit lukewarm to me. It doesn't lean hard enough into being sarcastic, funny, childish, or serious—it just kind of sits in the middle. I feel like Terry Gilliam could have picked one of those lanes and really run with it. Those creatures with the fairy tale nods—like Little Red Riding Hood or Hansel and Gretel—were actually pretty impressive. That’s where you see the real horror potential of the concept. It's an okay movie, but it lacks backbone. Hey Gilliam, why the hesitation? Were you just playing it too safe? What happened to you? Come on, newcomer, go ask your buddy 😁😁

Word on the street is he told the American press all sorts of things about the producers meddling with the final cut.

A Miramax executive basically left that movie gathering dust on a shelf for two years, only finally releasing it in theaters after they split from Disney, mostly just to squeeze a little more profit out of the parent company. Honestly, good riddance to that breakup.

Plus, Gilliam was intentionally aiming for something a bit less ambitious this time around—just trying to rebuild his reputation and fix those ratings after all those previous financial flops.

Why is the rating such a mess? It’s honestly depressing seeing a director like Gilliam having to deal with this kind of nonsense... I mean, who even puts him in this position? The whole film industry has just gone downhill lately 🙄

I mean, it doesn't really matter, since the guy actually managed to film Tideland in the meantime.
It was definitely a low-budget project, but you get so much more creative freedom that way—though, honestly, that doesn't mean much to me personally. 😬

Well—the aspect ratio is off. And honestly? It’s not even visually impressive to begin with.

Something funny just hit me while I was watching... the whole time, I couldn't shake the feeling that it wasn't an actual forest, just a movie set. I mean, obviously it is, but still... that little lamb looked way too fake.😁

I wouldn't say I'm exactly a huge fan of Terry Gilliam’s filmography, but man, this movie was a total snoozefest. It’s been a long time since I’ve sat through something so incredibly bland and uninspiring. I can't even go as far as to say it was a "bad" movie, because it didn't really leave any impression on me at all. The only thing I can truly say about the experience is how deeply bored I felt from start to finish.

I still haven't actually sat down to watch that movie... so I have no clue which forest you're talking about... but I did visit those old studio backlots in Atlanta and saw the "village" they built specifically for the production...

You clearly have no clue... you just fell under some kind of sleeping spell... which honestly just proves how authentic the film actually is...😁

Seriously, did any of you actually read today's review by Jurica Pavičić in the New York Times about The Brothers Grimm?
Well, you don't even need to bother, because Jure clearly spent his morning lurking in this thread... I was just waiting for him to mention how fake the forest looked in the movie. 😁😁...Alright, which one of you is Jurica Pavičić? Come on, at least introduce yourself like a normal person... Hey Jure, I'm looking for my 50% cut of your fee for today's article; I'll donate the whole thing back to the development of this forum. 🙂 😁

I actually had Inoslav Bešker "quote" me once. 😁
I was honestly so swept up in the pride of it all that I completely lost track of things for a few days.
