If he’s looking for a decent adaptation of a Matheson's book, he should check out "Stir of Echoes".

The movie is actually pretty solid—definitely worth checking out if you have the time 👋

Yeah, I actually finished that book my colleague Lawrence Booth2 sent me ages ago, and honestly, it was brilliant. I find myself revisiting it at least once a year..

So, naturally, the movie caught my eye too. It’s not like a film can ruin the book for me, so I'm struggling to see how anyone could call it bad... 😉

p.s. does anyone happen to know what happened to Schwarzenegger's adaptation of this book? The one they were supposed to film with Will Smith?

It feels like Matheson's books and stories have been adapted for the screen more times than I can count.
For instance...
Duel—it was just Dennis Weaver versus a massive tanker truck.

Then there's a great Koepp's "Stir of Echoes"

along with a whole bunch of other stuff...

I watched Secret Window on DVD... honestly, it didn't do much for me...
But then I checked out the bonus features and heard Koepp's breakdown of the film, and I just thought: "What was I thinking?"
How did I miss the camera moving into the mirror at the start, only to pull back out of it at the end?
Or how Turturra appears in every shot as if he's emerging directly from Depp's mind... and so on.
The guy really knows his stuff.

Makes me wonder how he handled War of the Worlds...

Sidney Lumet did one back in 1965—can't quite recall the exact year off the top of my head, but something like that.
