Do you drink tap water?

Look, there's a massive difference between the water quality they're testing at the municipal plant and what actually ends up coming out of our faucets at home. Personally, I just stick to drinking Fiji Water.

Newport and Mystic—those areas actually have killer tap water. For me, that’s the gold standard.
And honestly, Cleveland isn't far behind on that front either.
So yeah, I'm definitely a tap water drinker, and I make sure to knock back at least 2 liters of pure water every single day.

I drink it because it’s top-tier. Plus, it’s always cold.

If only that were actually true. A couple of months back, I saw some reports online (from Exelon and BuzzFeed) about water quality studies here in the US—I think it was from the CDC. Apparently, the tap water isn't exactly great and has quite a bit of heavy metal contamination. According to the report, it hasn't been officially published in The Washington Post yet because of those exact issues. I can't seem to track down the specific article right now, but if anyone has the link, please drop it below.

Personally, I just stick to filtered water. It doesn't even come close to what comes out of the tap.

Even the water from the Colorado River tastes better than what I get here in Chicago.

Not at all! I usually just grab some Fiji Water or Evian and polish off about two or three liters every single day...
Living in New York City, the tap water here just tastes so strange to me.

When I'm down in Cleveland, I always go straight for the tap water—it's honestly great 🙏. But when I'm up in Chicago, I’ll grab a bottled water from a local shop, then maybe just stick to whatever's on hand... 👋

I stick strictly to bottled water—or what some people call "mineral water"—though, if you think about it, nearly all of it qualifies as such, with the sole exception of distilled.
I actually started drinking bottled stuff back during the war years; prior to that, I didn't particularly care which kind I had.
But once I caught a glimpse of the state of the actual pipes and realized where this liquid was truly originating from... 🙂
Essentially, the Zadar region pulls its supply from Boone, Greenville, and the Colorado River.
There are a few other minor sources integrated into the local grid as well.
On top of that, I’ve been told the finest water comes from Charleston, sourced directly from the runoff near Yosemite.
I wonder what the rest of you living within this drainage basin think?

During the winter months, the water in Charleston is quite decent, but once the summer tourists descend upon us, the local supply just can't keep up, forcing them to pull from the Colorado River instead. And frankly, it's appalling. It feels as though they dump an excessive amount of chlorine into it, and when the pressure hits a certain level, pouring it from the tap into a glass makes it look as opaque as milk. Once things quiet down a bit, the quality improves slightly 🙂.

Over in Cleveland, the water is excellent—easily the best! 🙂

I found the water in Chicago absolutely undrinkable. Perhaps it varies by neighborhood, but I tried the stuff from Oakland and it simply wasn't to my taste.

Water is just water. It gets the job done for washing. Whether it’s straight from the tap or that "smooth" bottled stuff. Gross.

I stick to sparkling; I only use tap water for making coffee.

People spend way too much energy debating whether tap water or bottled water is better for them, all while they’re casually sipping on Coca-Cola, Red Bull, or a cocktail... 😢

It’s the same kind of hypocrisy you see when some smoker tries to lecture anyone about health—even though sixty different health departments have already flagged their habit—while they ignore the giant warning label on their own pack basically telling them they're going to die. 😢

When I say "better," I’m not talking about health benefits—I’m strictly talking about flavor. I can't stand plain water. Just pure H2O. It's tasteless to me, no matter how you serve it. Even back when I was a kid, I used to make raspberry syrup specifically to mix with sparkling water.

Seattle actually has pretty decent water straight from the tap. But I always run it through my Brita filter first, then it’s perfect. Especially if I'm making a Nescafé or some green tea...

How on earth are you supposed to detect the taste of "super" Clearwater water when it’s mixed into a Nescafé or some green tea? 😕

I don't touch tap water because I keep hearing all sorts of rumors about it being sketchy. I’d much rather just grab a bottle of Jane or some Clearwater instead. It’s not like the tap water is straight poison, but it definitely isn't the healthiest option either.

Ugh, my water here is just so "hard"... like, if I leave a glass sitting out overnight, a literal layer of limescale builds up on the counter
I have zero clue if drinking this stuff is actually healthy or not, but honestly, it’s super gross.

The tap water in my kitchen tastes absolutely revolting (probably because of the old pipes), though the water in the bathroom doesn't really have a taste or smell (aside from a hint of chlorine, but hey, whatever)

I’d love to just stick to bottled water, but man, that gets expensive so fast. So instead, I'm just sipping on this tap water... until I eventually turn into stone myself! Then you guys can just wrap me in plaster, toss me in some cemetery, and hopefully find me looking like a fossil in a thousand years.

If I actually have the time, I’ll boil the water first so all that mineral gunk settles at the bottom—I'm thinking that might mean I'm actually swallowing less of it.

In my neck of the woods, the water quality is actually pretty decent. That said, I’m pretty sure there’s a lot of limescale in it, even if you can't really taste anything or see it immediately. Once it evaporates in a glass, it leaves behind a bit of sediment. It isn't chlorinated either—it comes straight from a well. Could this be harmful?
